Art and Change Grants are distributed twice a year and decisions are made by an independent peer review panel. The August 2015 review panel consisted of healing justice artist Qui Dorian (ACG '14), quilter and doll maker Ra’sheedah Bey (LTA '10), and filmmaker Wazmah Osman. Aarati Kasturirangan, director of programs at Bread & Roses Community Fund, facilitated the panel.

URSULA RUCKER AT FIRST PERSON ARTS FESTIVAL THIS FRIDAY

Leeway co-presents Ursula Rucker's (LTA '08, ACG '08) My Father's Daughter at the 14th Annual First Person Arts Festival. This one-woman show paints a courageously honest portrait of a family struggling to overcome the effects of domestic abuse and addiction, while learning to forgive. Weaving poetry, music, and video imagery, Ursula draws parallels between her mother’s life and her own, illuminating how her mother’s relationships and struggles have shaped Ursula into the woman she is today. Friday, November 6, doors open at 7:30pm at the Plays and Players Theater (1714 Delancey Pl). Tickets $15; and $12 for First Person Arts Members. Click here for more information.

HAUNTING VOICES: SALON AND OPEN MIC ON NOVEMBER 19

Twelve Gates Arts and Leeway present Haunting Voices, featuring performances by Jai Arun Ravine, Suzie Afridi, and Michelle Myers (LTA '14, ACG '11) and Catzie Vilayphonh (ACG '14, '10, LTA '10, WOO '02) of Yellow Rage. This open mic and salon celebrates the launch of Twelve Gates' newest exhibit, Ruins and Fabrications, which explores visual narratives of loss and futurity through the work of two women photographers, Gauri Gill and Annu Matthew. Journey among refashioned archives, while listening to stories told through comedy, spoken word and poetry. You too can tell your own story!
