Did you catch us live?

This year portions of Ocean Exchange were live streamed on the web, thanks to StageFront Productions. As always, we and many attendees were active on twitter under the hashtag #OEx2015

Gulfstream®
Navigator Award
WINNER

The Gulfstream® Navigator Award is given to the Solution that best demonstrates the greatest alignment with the 2015 theme (Translate Sustainability Into Value) with applicability across multiple industries generating positive impact on the environment, economies or health while respecting cultures around the world.

Congratulations to Saphon Energy for their winning solution Zero-Blade Wind Energy Converter.
Zero-Blade Wind Energy Converter

Saphon Energy has developed breakthrough innovation in wind energy named “The Saphonian”, the Zero-Blade wind converter. The Saphonian is a novel way to generate efficient, cost-effective and sustainable green energy. It is different from conventional bladed turbines as it is bladeless and doesn’t rotate. It rather follows a back and forth 3D knot motion and has a simple and unique design that is largely inspired from sailboat motion.

The bladeless design reconciles outstanding technical performances with ecological considerations. The Saphonian also offers major applicability across various industries. On-grid, off-grid and distributed energy markets are a major target for the zero-blade technology. The new machine could also be used as water pump and air conditioner mainly in remote locations.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics
Orcelle® Award
WINNER

The WWL Orcelle® Award is given to the Solution that makes shipping and logistics more sustainable by advancing zero-emission, marine and/or land based technologies that are commercially viable.

Congratulations to Transient Plasma Systems, who won with Energy Efficient, Low Emission Ignition.

Energy Efficient, Low Emission Ignition

Transient Plasma Systems' energy efficient, low emission ignition technology is considered by automotive and truck manufacturers and engine producers to be the quickest solution to meet stringent new fuel economy regulations in the US. Based on early pilot studies the technology will have major impact in aerospace, automotive, heavy transport, energy, medical, and agriculture markets.

This technology has demonstrated improvements in fuel efficiency in engines by over 20%, and improved ignition of a broader range of fuels (e.g. gasoline, natural gas, jet fuel) compared to traditional ignition methods.

Other demonstrated applications include drag reduction in airfoils by more than 30%, improved wine quality and quantity and reduced maturation time after its application to wine grapes, and a noninvasive cancer treatment that leaves no scars.

The BIG Pitch
2015 marks the first year of our collegiate innovation contest, sponsored by Georgia Southern University and Ocean Exchange. We'd like to congratulate our winner, Nicholas Flanders of Stanford University with his solution: Opus 12. To learn more about this solution and the other finalists check out their pitch videos here.

Shout-Out to Our Volunteers!

Ocean Exchange is so grateful for the support of numerous volunteers. We thank them for their time and wonderful energy. Ocean Exchange is a better organization, and event, because of their commitment. Learn more about them at OceanExchange.org.

Many Thanks to Our 2015 Film Interns

The film intern program effectively forms a production company to produce short films which tell the world about complex solutions related to sustainability, namely the Ocean Exchange finalists, from an artist’s perspective.

The video playlist of this year's films is now online. The playlist includes Santa's Day Off, the winner of the People's Choice Film Award, which was voted the top film by Ocean Exchange Delegates.
You'll also find solutions summaries and links to more information.
