Welcome to the October edition of RDAQ eNewsletter.
Summer seems to have come early and the days are slowly becoming longer.
RDA Centres are back in full swing after school holidays and looking forward to having some fun in the remaining few months.

RDAQ Matters

With both the State Event and State Conference over for another 12 months we finally have a chance to slow down and take stock of things.
Overall we were very happy with both events; the attendance at the State Event was outstanding and overall things went well. We were gratified that so many riders were able to experience the thrill of participating in a State Competition and hope numbers will continue to improve again next year.
We thank those that took the time to give us feed back, this has been considered and used as part of the project plan for our 2016 competition. The state Events will be held in June/July from now on to give those wishing to consider travelling to Nationals more time to plan and prepare in the future.
We were extremely pleased with the State Conference; I cannot thank Linda Gaffney, Trish Hollis and the Team at Crowson Park enough for allowing us to use their facility to hold this event.
Sally Francis and Wendy Mungomery were inspiring, their knowledge, sense of humor and communication was amazing. We all gained so much from them and I am sure the therapeutic side of RDA will be seen more in centres after that weekend. RDAQ is very grateful to them both.
We were able to maximise Sally’s visit while she was with us. She travelled with me to Bundaberg where she taught coaches and volunteers on the Tuesday before flying to Mackay on the Wednesday. Sally taught a further two days there and then flew onto Cairns to spend the weekend with Sheena and the team in North Qld, before finally heading back down South on the Sunday evening. I can say without doubt everyone enjoyed her sessions and all gained so much.
We did mention at the General Meeting that we are negotiating to establish a new State RDAQ Centre, this is one step closer this week as we came to a basic agreement regarding a sub-lease at the Hendra Pony Club Grounds.
I will also take the time to commend to you our two new Board Members Lisa Kirkup and Karen Innes-Walker who we appointed at the General Meeting.
These ladies bring new ideas and added enthusiasm to the Board, we welcome them both.

Modern Club Management - Tax for Not-For-Profit Organisations

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has products available on their website aimed specifically for administrators in not-for-profit organisations.  These products are designed to assist with the tax administration in these organisations.  There are three products:
1. Induction package - introduces clubs to the information and services the ATO have to assist clubs and contains an overview of not-for-profit tax issues
2. Handover checklist - helps when your not-for-profit  organisation changes the administrator of its tax affairs.
3. Self-governance checklist - helps clubs review an organisation's status as a not-for-profit organisation, and check how well your organisation  understands its tax and super obligations.
These products and further information for not-for-profit organisations can be found at the ATO website at www.ato.gov.au.

RDA Gemfields

Gemfields RDA closed for the school holidays as many of our riders and members were going away. Coach Paula Riley and President Tim Riley decided to attend the RDAQ State Conference which was being held at Crowson Park. So we loaded up our rig and car and off we went. Of course we had Chloe our RDA mascot with us. We arrived at Crowson Park on Friday 18th September and were warmly met by Level 1 Coach Linda Gaffaney who took us on a tour of her Centre. We were very impressed with how they are set up and took home lots of ideas for our centre and various games etc to build on. At the Centre we had two days of workshop with Sally Francis instructing us on Riding to Progress, horse handling and therapeutic riding with Therapist Wendy Mungomery working alongside Sally which gave us a different view to our working with our clients with disabilities. Everyone had a great weekend and learnt lots of new techniques and ideas to take home.
From there we decided to head up to Mackay RDA where Sally was also heading to do a Workshop being presented by Mary Steel and the Mackay RDA Centre volunteers. Once again this was a very interesting 2 day workshop and we met lots of new people and old friends who made us very welcome and again took away new ideas to test out when we were home.
Many thanks to everyone at Crowson Park, Mackay RDA and RDAQ who made these events happen. Also thanks to the chefs Kerry, Barry and Sue who provided the delicious bbq breakfasts and lunches as well as morning and afternoon tea at Crowson Park and a big thank you to Megan Wray for all her help.
Saturday 10th October was our surprise presentation for Queensland Volunteer of the Year 2015 Awards. We held our normal riding lessons on Saturday morning to be followed by presentations and a sausage sizzle. Councillor Gai Sypher came out from Emerald to present this Award of which we had kept the nominee Les McConnell totally in the dark and was quite a surprise to him.when Gai anounced his name for Queensland Volunteer Runner Up of the Year. Gai presented Les with his Certificate and a lovely jacket with his name and Runner Up on it. For once Les was lost for words. Les will be 83 young this year and loves working with the children, horses and any maintenance work that is required of him.
Also while we had Councillor Gai available we asked her to present various Achievement Certificates to some of the children who had achieved various goals.
We start our next quarter with another 4 new riders and a new volunteer to kick us off.
GRDA would like to thank Dave Williams, one of our members that has been helping farmers with the floods earlier this year, and has arranged for 58 bales of lucerne hay to be donated to our centre by Lindsay and Hana Penney of Lindana Bazadais Stud, Lindana Lucerne proudly supporting Gemfields RDA, T/A Crazy Horse Investments Trust at Mulgildie. A special big thanks go to them as what a god send this is during the drought here on the Central Highlands.
All in all we had a very successful fun day ending with a sausage sizzle and friendly get together.

RDA Lockyer Valley

Hi All other Riders,
We are the Lockyer Valley Group and this is our first time putting something in the Newsletter, not sure what to put but we are giving it ago.
We have been having some fun with our lessons after the State Championships which was a blast, we took 2 old nags and 4 new babies to the competition. We couldn’t wait to join in and meet some new friends and some old friends from other comps. Our coaches did a terrific job in training us and taking us along for the ride. We have lots more riders and we are helping them get ready to come and have fun with us next year.

We have been on holidays and are getting ready for our next lot of classes with our friends and our horses. On the Holidays 2 Riders joined a trail ride with a friend and it was a hoot. We saw a couple snakes and camped out for a week.  We enjoyed it so much we didn’t want to end the ride but we had to go back to school. It’s starting to get hot over here and we will be finishing riding for the summer. So we are do our best to have heaps of fun and make our coaches and friends laugh lots. We even have a minion in the centre of our arena which we through balls into and sing songs to.
