From October 1 - 17 I was in residence at ArToll kunstlabor in Bedburg-Hau, Germany. The works I made, small paintings and wall paintings, can still be seen in the exhibition Kondensat to November 7. On this last exhibition day, at 3pm, the catalogue of the working period and exhibition will be presented. On november 14 is also the completion of the project Schwarzmalen2. The updates of the painting in development are to see in this newsletter. The works of the 8 participating artists of the project are presented on Saturday afternoon November 14 at VondelCS in Amsterdam. You are cordially invited for both presentations.

completion schwarzmalen2
In a period of two months (September 1-November 14), seven colleagues and I worked each on a painting of 160x160 cm, consisting of four canvases of 80×80 cm. The unpainted canvases of 80×80 cm are for sale and most of them were just before the start of the project, blank and anonymous sold. There are still a few paintings for sale. The project started on Tuesday September 1 and ends on Saturday November 14. At the final presentation on Saturday afternoon November 14 in VondelCS, Amsterdam will be announced which artist created which painting and also the buyer will know from who he or she purchased the work.

Everyone was allowed to be involved in the process, this was done via a poll on Facebook. Every two weeks you were invited through Facebook to answer a multiple choice question, every two weeks we will post an update of the painting that is influenced by the public. The poll ends on Friday 30 October with the last question. Five of the six updates are shown here the last update will be exclusively presented in VondelCS on November 14.

The title schwarzmalen comes from the painting
Höhere Wesen befahlen: Rechte obere Ecke schwarz malen! by Sigmar Polke and is a critical reference to the idea that the public can participate, but also a glimpse to the commercial idea of crowd funding  Crowdfunding for a painting that still is a blank canvas is a strange proposition: the buyers do not know what they is buying (because the canvas is still white) and the artists do not know yet what they are going to paint. Read more about schwarzmalen on the website www.schwarzmalen.nl (nl) and purchase a canvas here.
