HCC Midweek Newsletter

CONNECTING THE CHURCH THE OTHER SIX DAYS OF THE WEEK

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.—
Ephesians 4:2-6

HCC 101

In order to strengthen our connections and identity as a church, we are offering a class on three Monday evenings in November titled “HCC 101”.  The class includes a simple dinner and time for fellowship with other participants.  Childcare, if requested, will be provided for infants and young children. As the title of the class indicates, this is a great starting point for people who are new to HCC and considering HCC as their church home.  It’s also an opportunity for long-time members to explore our identity and mission as a church among churches in our community.  For those desiring membership this class serves as a prerequisite, but it is open to everyone.  Please sign up ASAP by contacting the church office or by putting your name on the sign-up sheet at the Information Center.
Here’s an overview of what we will be talking about each of the three evenings.

“Everybody Has A Story”
Monday, November 2
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Each person has a story.  Each church has a story.  When we come together as a church community our stories become part of the larger narrative of the Christian faith and are transformed by the redemptive power of Christ.  In this first session participants will be invited to consider their own journey of faith while also looking at the history of Harbert Community Church.  Though we are all imperfect people, God invites us to participate in the grand story of redemption giving us a vision of the Church founded on Christ’s love (1 Corinthians 13).

“One Lord, One Faith,
One Baptism, One God”
Monday, November 9
6:30-8:30 p.m.
As Ephesians 4:4-6 says, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.”  Though we are a church with a specific tradition and a unique history, we share a unity with the historic Christian Church and the Church worldwide.  We will look at our place in the family of faith, our affiliation with the Evangelical Covenant Church denomination, with the goal of understanding how this informs our beliefs and practices.

“Belonging to HCC”
Monday, November 16
6:30-8:30 p.m.
In this session we will look at the things that hold us together as a church.  This includes our mission statement, our vision, our values, and our specific ministries.  We will additionally look at what it means to be follower of Jesus and how this relates to membership at HCC.  Finally, we’ll consider next steps for those wanting to strengthen their commitment and participation.
