We have redesigned and updated the blavatnikarchive.org website.  We are pleased to announce a new section, WWII Eastern Front, which focuses on early 20th century Russian Jewish life, World War II history on the Eastern Front, and the Holocaust on Soviet territory.  Combining historical narrative, oral testimonies, and archival documents in a chapter-based format, the new website section was produced in direct response to educational requests for an easily accessible multimedia package.  It is our pleasure as well to introduce a new blog, Moments from the Eastern Front, that highlights compelling individual stories and reflections from the war. Guest post authors are invited to contribute content.  And as always, there are veteran interview clips, archival image selections, and photos from our recent events.

The Blavatnik Archive is on Facebook!  Check us out and join the conversation.  We'll be posting new archival images and interview clips on a weekly basis, as well as offering opportunities to share and help.

In 2015 the Blavatnik Archive developed a collaborative relationship with Middlebury college, sharing selected veteran testimonies and Judaica artifacts with students in Professor Rebecca Bennette’s undergraduate class, Jews in Modern Europe.  "The resources of the Blavatnik Archive have tremendously enriched my course on the history of the Jews in modern Europe,” Professor Bennette shared. “Seeing the veterans’ testimonies featured on the archive’s website was an eye opening experience for my students that fundamentally changed the way they viewed the narrative of European Jewish life during WWII.  The wonderful staff was also very helpful in providing my students with digitized copies of some of their rich holdings that one would normally only be able to view by traveling onsite to an archive.  Consequently, my class was able to partake in experiential learning by working with archival primary sources as professional historians do. Indeed, one student remarked that looking at the archived postcards with the handwritten messages of the people who sent them almost a century ago on the backside brought history 'home' to her in a way that had never happened before and was a highlight of her college career."
