On Sunday, November 1, we’ll celebrate All Saints’ Day. In most Protestant churches, this is a day to remember all Christians who have died, joining the cloud of witnesses.
Saints aren't a large part of our tradition, but remembering both those beloved to us as well as the many Christians who came before us ties us to the broader Church. This guy is the most often mentioned saint in Disciples tradition. St. Andrew was the first called apostle. Legend says he traveled to Scotland to spread the Gospel there. Since Disciples trace their roots to Scottish Presbyterians, the cross of St. Andrew is imposed on the chalice that is the symbol of our denomination.
