Vuosikokouksesta/ Annual General Meeting

Puheenjohtaja: Jori Tossavainen
Varapuheenjohtaja: Riina Aapa
Rahastonhoitaja: Pirjo Tossavainen
Sihteeri: Anneli Jortikka
Hallituksen jäsenet: Mauri Kankaanpää, Lauri Jortikka, James Henderson, Reijo Henriksson, Kaarina Ikonen, Niina Kautto, Lea Jortikka, Hilja Toom.

Finnish Society of Melbourne gathered for the Annual General Meeting on the 13th of September 2015. The Committee and activity groups presented their annual reports,* and the AGM approved the treasurer’s report and the Committee was released from its responsibility. The membership fees remain the same (please see the next item!).

According to the FSM Chairman Jori Tossavainen, we will have a ‘quieter’ year in 2016 and plan big for the following year, 2017, which celebrates 100 years of Finland’s independence. There are plans to include ‘new blood’ in the planning, applying for grants and organising of events for 2017. If you are interested in joining the planning of the 100th anniversary events, please let the Chairperson Jori know. In addition, building a sauna at the Finnish Hall has gained traction and a specific sauna committee has been set up to look at the feasibility of the plan.

The following members were elected to the FSM Committee:
Chairperson: Jori Tossavainen
Vice-President: Riina Aapa
Treasurer: Pirjo Tossavainen
Secretary: Anneli Jortikka
Ordinary members: Mauri Kankaanpää, Lauri Jortikka, James Henderson, Reijo Henriksson, Kaarina Ikonen, Niina Kautto, Lea Jortikka, Hilja Toom. Deputy members: Kimmo Sandström, Cati Jumpponen

Suomi-Seura baltialaisissa ja pohjoismaisissa tapahtumissa/ FSM at the Baltic and Nordic festivals

Seuran kansantanssijat ja Spirit of Finland-kuoro olivat mukana menossa 2015 Baltic Festival -festivaaleilla 11. lokakuuta Melbournen liettualaisella klubilla.

The folk dancers and the Spirit of Finland choir joined the 2015 Baltic Festival at the Melbourne Lithuanian Club on the 11th of October. This Baltic bonanza was a celebration of the Estonian, Finnish, Latvian and Lithuanian communities in Melbourne. Only one week after, the folk dancers were back in business at the Nordic Festival in Warburton; Henna's and Helena's daughters made their first dancing appearance. Also the audience was able to learn a few folk dancing steps. The Finland Shop stall attracted customers all day – natural and salty liquorice as well as Fazer chocolate were expectedly big hits.
