Bringing Celebrations and Concerns to our church family

Here's what's happening this week...

CAREGIVER SUNDAY
The Church is in a unique position to pray for and offer practical help to caregivers through a variety of means to share hope, care, and provide rest for the soul. This week we will observe caregiver Sunday. More than 65 million people, 29% of the U.S. population, provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aged family member or friend during any given year.  The responsibilities and challenges of caring for a loved one can cause significant stress to the family caregiver.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
Many pledge cards for 2016 were presented and prayed over in worship this past Sunday.  If you have not mailed yours in, please do so ASAP (39. N. Broadway, White Plains, 10601). Alternatively, you may email it to Pastor Jeff [pastorgeary@optonline.net]

ANNUAL PRAYER BREAKFAST - Nov. 7
The annual Prayer Breakfast is this Saturday at 9 A.M.  Mark Koenig, Director of the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations, will speak with us about "Following Jesus in a Violent World."  A hot breakfast will be served. Please invite family, friends and acquaintances to attend. The suggested donation is $10, but if you are unable to make a donation please still join us.   If you have any particular food allergies or requirements, please leave a message at the church or contact one of the Prayer Ministers.

BIBLIODRAMA POSPONED
There will be no adult education class this Sunday. Due to a family emergency, Elizabeth Wind has had to cancel the planned bibliodrama program. We will work to reschedule this soon.

erform Gabriel Fauré's Requiem with the combined choirs of St. James the Less Episcopal Church in Scarsdale, Trinity Episcopal Church in Ossining, accompanied by organist Jon Riss and the Canadian Chamber Orchestra of New York City, Dr. Justin Bischof, conductor.   November 8 at 4:00 at St. James the Less at 10 Church Ln., Scarsdale, NY 10583.

CAN WE BAN PLASTIC BAGS IN WESTCHESTER? - Nov. 15
The average life of a single-use plastic bag, the kind you get in grocery and retail stores, is twelve minutes. Not easily recyclable, these bags often end up as litter, harm wildlife, clog storm drains and persist in the environment. Plastic lasts forever! After worship, Anne Bobroff-Hajal will tell us about pending legislation to ban single-use bags in our county, what it would and would not include, and how it will affect our common life.

NEWS FROM PERU
Take 3.5 minutes and watch this video on Joining Hands Peru https://www.pcusa.org/…/new-reasons-hope-pollution-ravaged…/ (scroll down the news story for video). Jed Koball, PC(USA) mission-co-worker, briefly and compellingly shows the connections between international trade and local health.

CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR PRISONERS
Remember those blank Christmas Cards you don’t need? We hope you’ve been saving them so we can again write Christmas cards to prisoners AND also give them cards & stamps to write to their families, etc. Calendars are much appreciated as well (NO wire please.) Put them on the table on the landing by the entrance to the Church House. We plan on writing cards after worship on Sunday Nov. 29.

GIFTS FOR CHILDREN WITH INCARCERATED PARENTS
Through Angel Tree Ministries, we give Christmas presents to local children with an incarcerated parent. We also invite them and their families to our Advent luncheon after worship on Sunday Dec. 6. In the coming weeks there will be a "Christmas Tree" in the Church House with "angels" indicating a child's name, age, possible gift, etc. Simply take an angel, record it on our list, get a present, wrap it and bring it back to church. Stay tuned for more info and additional ways to assist.
