November 2015

Welcome to the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and Anne Frank in the World e-newsletter. Updates on upcoming events, programs, and opportunities right to your inbox! Here is what is new:

On This Day: November 1942

Peter turns 16 and Fritz Pfeffer joins the inhabitants of the Annex

The Frank and van Pels families have been hiding in the Secret Annex since July. On November 8, Peter turns 16. About a week later, the seven people hiding in "the Secret Annex" are joined by another: Fritz Pfeffer. Like the Franks and van Pels, Pfeffer is also originally from Germany where he had a dental practice in Berlin. Unlike the Frank and van Pels, he does not have his family hiding in the Annex with him.

2015 MJCCA Book Festival: My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me

Join the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust on as the Community Partner for My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me: A Black Woman Discovers Her Family's Nazi Past on November 19th!

Thursday, 11/19/2015 - 7:30pm
Location: MJCCA-Zaban Park
5342 Tilly Mill Road
Dunwoody, GA 30338

When Jennifer Teege, a German-Nigerian woman, happened to pluck a library book from the shelf, she had no idea that her life would be irrevocably altered. Recognizing photos of her mother and grandmother in the book, she discovers a horrifying fact: Her grandfather was Amon Goeth, the vicious Nazi commandant chillingly depicted by Ralph Fiennes in Schindler’s List—a man known and reviled the world over. The more Teege reads about Amon Goeth, the more certain she becomes: If her grandfather had met her—a black woman—he would have killed her. Teege’s discovery sends her on a quest to unearth and fully comprehend her family’s haunted history.

Film Screening: Ticket holders are invited to screen the documentary, "Inheritance," free of charge before the Jennifer Teege program. Film begins at 5:00 pm in the Morris & Rae Frank Theatre. Presented by the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.
