Congregational meeting. There will be a brief congregational meeting this Sunday, November 15, immediately following the worship service. An update on renovations will be given, and we will vote on authorization of sanctuary roof repairs.
Sound tech training. This week the new sound and lighting system is being installed as part of the Sanctuary remodel project. The new systems include control boards for sound and lighting and computer control for video camera and video presentations. These systems provide exciting new potential enhancement to our worship experience but require volunteers to operate them. The installer will be providing training this Saturday, November 14, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. He will also be providing support during the service on Sunday. Please let Wendy Daily in the church office if you can attend for approximately 90 minutes during that period.
Bring your food baskets. Please return your filled food baskets for the Fishes and Loaves food pantry to church by this Sunday, November 15. A list of needed food items is available on our web site. The baskets will be delivered to the pantry at Good Shepherd in Irving on Thursday, November 19, at 10:00 a.m. (delivery volunteers needed). We're also invited to help serve at Good Shepherd's annual community Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday, November 21, which is attended by over 300 of their neighbors. Good Shepherd is located at 2620 West Grauwyler Road in Irving.
Faith and Film. This Sunday, November 15, 4:00-7:30 p.m., explore the meaning of forgiveness through the award-winning Norwegian film Troubled Water (subtitled). Come to the home of Marjorie Suchocki where we will watch the film (120 minutes), share a soup supper and discuss. Surely we will resolve the issues together, won't we? RSVP to Marjorie if you wish to attend (contact information published in the church directory).
Head usher. We are creating a new Head Usher position for Sunday mornings and are seeking volunteers. The head usher will be responsible for ensuring people assigned to worship service duties are there and quickly find replacements if they are not. They will also serve as back-up to ushers by helping seat people and resolving seating capacity issues. It will be a rotating, scheduled duty as for other volunteers. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Wendy or Toni Holte.
Pie Fest. We will kick off the celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday with a day of pies. Please bring your favorite pie to share with everyone on Sunday, November 22, and then stay after worship for the fun and good eating!
Briarwood Advent retreat. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders are invited to attend the Advent Retreat at Briarwood Retreat Center on December 5-6. Enjoy four delicious meals, sleep in one of the great cabins, and learn all about Advent traditions with the Briarwood program staff. Cost is $60 per student ($30 for second student from the same family). Join us around a roaring campfire and enjoy a weekend away with your church friends. For more information and to register, please contact Chip and Terri Sakakeeny.
Abiding Grace women. The Women's Christmas Brunch is set for Saturday, December 5, at 10:00 a.m. This is a time for celebrating the Christmas season and gathering with friends old and new. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share, and all ladies are welcome and encouraged to attend. The brunch is the time to reveal yourself to your Secret Sister and an opportunity bless her with one final gift. You will also have a chance to sign up to participate as a Secret Sister in 2016. If you are not currently a Secret Sister, please bring a gift to exchange. We are looking for volunteers to host a table. We would like the table sponsors to use holiday paper goods to set the tables along with your own decorating creativity. You can do this individually or with a partner or group. If you sign up to decorate a table, please plan to arrive early to decorate. If you would like to attend or sponsor a table, please contact Lisa Derasaugh.
Advent Fair. Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 6, for the Advent Fair. There will crafts to make, Advent Jeopardy, Christmas carols and hot chocolate. The evening starts at 5:00 p.m. with soup and sandwiches and ends at 8:00 with hot chocolate. Please bring your favorite soup to share and wear your favorite Christmas sweater (have fun with the sweater). A sign up sheet will be at the welcome table.
A big thank-you is extended to all who donated cooking oil for GRACE during the month of October. We collected a total of 149 bottles that will be used during GRACE's holiday food distribution. We continue to collect cooking oil for the ongoing needs of the GRACE Food Pantry.
Keep in prayer. Please keep the following people in your prayers: Kate, Esther, Mike, Linda, Don, Becky, Curtis Piper, John Saeger, Holly, Nate, Marie, DeWees Keller, Caitlyn, Bill Perkins, Sam, Ami, Pete, Maryjo, Mark, Henry, Teensie, Ron, Kevin, Jim and Sarah, Linda, and the Christensen family.
