PT Ski Newsletter November 2015

The ski season is nearly upon us and the lifts will soon be opening. Indeed the Parsenn and Jakobshorn are due to open on 20th November and I will be putting on skis for the first time this winter on 8th December. I would be lying if I said I’m not excited! For those yet to finalise their winter plans there is plenty of food for thought in Klosters. Our new reps Georgie and Amy will be raring to look after guests from 11th December. Our early season prices are very competitive and see below about the FREE SKI PASS offer!   For those who like their off piste, there is still availability on both of our off piste weekends where I will be acting as host, with the guiding being done by a qualified guide. For families thinking about half term, we are likely to close this in the next couple of weeks, but there is still good availability for the first week of the Easter holidays. For more information and other ideas then please visit www.ptski.com.

My new favourite phrase is “life is better when you ski!” The days are getting shorter, the weather colder. Winter is coming and life is about to get a whole lot better, especially if you are coming to Klosters!

When is the best time to ski in Klosters?

by James P-T
I am often asked “when is the best time to go Klosters?” and the temptation is always to answer “any time!”.  However, there do seem to be certain times which seem consistently better than others depending on your perspective.  For many years I was a big fan of late February or early March.  The snow is still really good then having had all winter to fall and the mountains are close to being at their best.  The pistes are fairly empty and with the days getting longer, and generally warmer too, the fantastic skiing can be punctuated by delicious lunches on sunny terraces.

Now that children have entered the equation the family holiday has to be in one of the school holiday periods.  We always erred towards the first two weeks of the Easter holidays.  There has always been plenty of snow then and with the runs back to the village being north facing, skiing back to the bottom is usually fine until about 8-10 April. The slopes tend to be pretty empty too and the children certainly love that warmer weather. Half term is also good and there is a real buzz around the village, although be mindful of the flights as they can get quite expensive.

Christmas and New Year is a lovely time for a family holiday to the Alps and for Klosters this is the best time if you want a bit of a party. The bars and night club are full and the village certainly gets into the festive spirit with fireworks at midnight on New Year’s Eve and piglet racing on New Year’s day.

For those who want to focus on their skiing, and particularly off piste, then the quality of the snow is hard to beat in January. The mountain tends to be fairly empty (spot the recurring theme! You often get the place to yourself!).  Unsurprisingly there is a distinct wintery feel and there is more of a chill in the air, but the skiing is fantastic and you can always warm up in one the many cosy wooden restaurants that adorn the mountain.

My recent discovery is pre Christmas. It is wonderful to get the skis back on and put in the first turns of winter.  With Klosters being in a good catchment area for snow and with an abundance of snow canons many of the pistes and lifts are up and running by mid December. The slopes are even quieter than normal and with a few bargains to be had such as free ski passes then this is a great time to blow away the cobwebs and get back into the skiing groove.

5th Anniversary party

Last month we celebrated 5 years of PT Ski with guests and friends at the Oriental Club in London. It was a momentous occasion and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us over the past 5 years, especially those who have been on holiday with us and come back and told their friends all about it! We look forward to the next 5 years and showing many more people what it is that we love about Klosters.
Tatler
Fran Kellett wrote a fabulous piece about Klosters and PT Ski in last month’s issue of Tatler and we were delighted with her account of her trip with PT Ski. If you missed it then click here to read it on our website.

Free Ski Pass!

If you’re thinking about getting some early season skiing in, there is an unmissable opportunity currently on offer for you to receive a FREE ski pass for every night you stay up until 20 December. There are no excuses to be made, as this deal works out to be excellent value. For example, a 4 nights stay bed and breakfast at the 4 star Silvretta Parkhotel is only £465pp, including all transfers, PT Ski service and of course free ski pass (prices based on 2 people sharing a standard double room).  Equally 4 nights at the 4 star Alpina would be £530 on the same basis. Email us on info@ptski.com for more information.
Beat the
New Year Blues
The Christmas and New Year period can be extremely hectic, so why not sneak in a week of skiing from Sunday 3 to Sunday 10 January 2016? Some schools don’t go back until the 11th or 12th, so you could bring the children for a week of family fun before the start of term. Klosters will be a little more peaceful then after the excitement of the New Year, and the flights tend to be cheaper as well!  Trips can be less than 7 days and call us now on 0207 736 5557 to plan a cheeky getaway.

The 6th Richards and Schauerte Christmas Concerts
On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December Klosters once again sees the return of the world class musicians from London’s Philharmonia orchestra performing with the men’s choir from the University of Lund, Sweden. This popular and high profile concert is spread over two evenings, and celebrates both the traditional and classical music from the great composers, as well as a festive concert to put you in the Christmas spirit. It would be a wonderful way to spend your evenings after a lovely day on the mountain enjoying your free ski pass! If you are interested in a “classical ski trip” then call us on 0207 736 5557.
