It seems like the year's end is racing towards us. The project list feels weighty, and I haven't even begun to think about the holidays. I keep reminding myself to embrace the moment, while filling too many of them to overflowing. Here's hoping we all can find times to pause in the busy-ness.

WHAT'S UP

A week or so ago, I shared about using emery in a pincushion for the first time. Since then, Teresa/crinkle dreams posted How to: Add Weight and Emery to your Pincushion, which I also found helpful. It's always good to have options!

WORTH A READ

Whoa! So much good stuff to share! Pick and choose if you must, but enjoy ....

ROUND-UP

This issue's round-up is all about wedge quilts, and I'm a big fan of Nicole/mama love quiltsMotley Wheel. Of course it's perfect as a color wheel, but other palettes are fun too! Note that Nicole has a pattern available on etsy. [mamalovequilts]
The wedge quilt by Sandra/Small Town Thread incorporated a beautiful and plentiful array of fabrics and involved improvisational cutting. Sandra cut 9.5x6.5" rectangles and then randomly cut them into wedges. [sandra_smith]

Similar but different, Emily/Quilts by Emily shares a tutorial for creating wedges for her darling Wonky Stripes Baby Quilt, starting with 8" squares, then using the "stack and whack" method to mix things up[quiltsbyemily]
Sacred Heart by Christina/A Few Scraps caught my eye because it's so unique and striking, but the story behind it tugged at my heart. Be sure and take a moment to read Christina's post, and then, if you're a MQG member, check out Christina's webinar, Wedge Quilts Go Modern on the MQG site - all about wedge quilts, including the techniques she used to create this quilt. [afewscraps]
I first saw Kristin/Kristin Shields' Shattered Dresden in the most recent Blogger's Quilt Festival and wow! Begun in a class with Virginia Findlay Wolfe, Kristin decided she 'just couldn't go traditional with it.' Good thing, right? [kristinshields]
For more wedges, here's a Scrappy Wedge Border tutorial by RebeccaMaeDesigns, and my pin board, Wedge Quilts.

ON TREND

Of course I've heard folks talk about fabric stamping, but I guess I perked up when I saw my friend Svetlana/s.o.t.a.k handmade doing it. Besides seeing her beautiful samples and finished pouch, she just posted so much great information about her block-making and fabric-stamping process. And she's even created a pin board plumb full of samples and helpful tips. I think you'll find it all very tempting. [sotakhandmade]

P.S. Wedges aren't just for quilts! Check out this fun Sproket Pillow tutorial by Cluck Cluck Sew ....
