The Fall Fest for 2015 was an amazing night at NFCN.  Nearly 900 people, MANY from our community, came to enjoy the evening, including a live DJ, nearly a dozen "Trunk or Treat" displays, hot dog supper and multiple entertainment options.  There were also a lot of discussions with folks interested in attending NFCN!  We are grateful for the leadership of Pastor Sabrina Jones and Pastor Matt Taylor and the host of volunteers who made this evening possible.  It's getting larger every year!

FOLLOWING THE DESIGNER'S DESIGN

I am a second-generation Chrysler owner.  The only question in father's mind when it came to purchasing automobiles was "Which Chrysler product will be buy this time?"  There were a few scattered years during which friends in the auto business would give Dad deals he couldn't refuse and he would drive other brands, but always felt a bit guilty in doing so and that passed on to me.

I learned early on in mostly buying used cars that if the original owner's manual had been lost, I had to find a way to get one.  There were some things that only the designer's manual could tell you about your model.  To find a Ford or Buick manual at, say, a garage sale, would never help me with a Chrysler, and visa-versa!  Only the designer truly knew how that particular model was to operate, and the little secrets about it that if you don't know or don't follow can really hurt you down the road.

So it is with our bodies, our lives and our relationships.  Our designer is God.  He made us for certain purposes, and designed us to fulfill that purpose.  He also made us in His image, which gives us incredible power with free will to either follow the designer's design or reject it.  IF we don't know and follow the manual, i.e. the Bible, God's revealed Word, it can truly hurt us.  For only there do we find the best way to live.  Following others' manuals or advice only brings consequences that can be devastating.  We learn this in our living.

Faith is a tricky thing.  It means clinging to something you can't see, touch or prove.  It means trusting your life on this earth to a God and His set of values revealed to us, and believing it's from Him.  It means surrendering our own will and desires to fulfill His will and desires, knowing the whole time we are perfectly free to go our own way and defy His.  It means staking our eternal destiny on His truths given to us in His Word.

We continue to discuss on Sunday's "God's design for us" in "A Theology of Relationships."  Whose manual do you have?  Whose are you following?  Are you fulfilling the Designer's intention?  Sobering questions.  I choose to live in the BEST way to live, and the ONLY way to die, which is becoming increasingly unpopular, but seems oh so much more wise to me, the longer I live.
Blessings.
Pastor Ulmet
