Create an on-line profile!

This past Spring, we launched our new On-line Volunteer Referral System (OVRS), which offers a host of new features for individuals who are searching for volunteer roles, such as the ability to search for skills-based opportunities; and direct access to a secure profile log-in.

To create your on-line profile CLICK HERE.

Once you have created your profile, go to the “Manage Notification” option in the main menu where you can set your notification preferences for receiving updates on volunteer roles that match your areas of interests. You can set the frequency of the notifications to either daily, weekly or monthly.

Note: It is important that when creating your profile to indicate your top three preferred areas of interests. When a new volunteer role is published on-line that matches the areas of interests you’ve selected, you will receive an email with a link to the volunteer role that is posted in our system.

Coming soon! We continue to explore various upgrades to our system in order to provide you, our clients, with easy access to search for meaningful volunteer roles. An update to the profiles is currently in progress and soon you will be able to:
  • Track applications to volunteer roles that you have applied to through your profile.
  • Tag volunteer roles that are of interest to you, which will be saved into a "wish list" for viewing and future reference.
For questions or assistance in searching for volunteer roles in our OVRS, please contact us at 2volunteer@volunteermbc.org

[PHOTO: John Huether]A Tribute to
John Huether

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Huether who left our world on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 and leaves behind a loving family, many friends, and a most memorable legacy.

Mr. Huether holds a very special place in all our hearts and minds here at Volunteer MBC for it was the result of the “Review of Volunteerism” report (2007) which he conducted that laid the groundwork for the creation of our Volunteer Centre for the Region of Peel.

In honour of his dedication and contributions to the voluntary sector, the John Huether Award for Volunteering Excellence was established in 2010. This award is presented to individuals who continually demonstrate exceptional leadership through example and is a significant contributor to the team and the community -- a fitting tribute to the man we all had the privilege of knowing.

His volunteer story captures a mere snap-shot of the man we all knew. CLICK HERE to read his story.

He will be truly missed.

Finding and earning your dream job is no easy journey, but it turns out that doing good for the world might be your golden ticket.

Over the past few years, we've spoken with hundreds of volunteers, hiring managers, recruiters, and career coaches to explore the theory that volunteering can help people get their dream job in any sector: public, private, or non-profit. We've complimented our qualitative stories with quantitative research to show that volunteering helps you at all the main steps of your career path:
  • Identifying your passions and career calling
  • Building critical skills and making your resume stand out

[IMAGE: PREB-Ontario]PREB-Ontario Volunteer Experience Recognition Program

Thanks to the Government of Ontario, one of the legacy initiatives of the Toronto 2015 Pan/ParaPan Am games is PREB-Ontario, which helps usher in a new skills-based era in volunteer recognition.

Voluntary organizations can now move beyond the traditional ways of thanking and recognizing volunteers. Now volunteers can receive a PREB Certificate that lists the tasks and skills they used as a volunteer. This PREB Certificate also details key aspects of a volunteer’s experience, such as hours of volunteering completed, activities performed, special achievements or training obtained and special comments by supervisors.

The PREB Certificate is ideal for anyone looking to be recognized for their volunteer involvement, but especially for:
  • Employment Seekers as it provides a formal demonstration of experience, which can help distinguish yourself from others
  • Employers as it provides a credible reference and lists skills which are transferrable to the workplace
  • Youth as it provides a professional reference which can be used when applying for scholarships and bursaries
  • Voluntary organizations as it is a new era in volunteer recognition which can help them attract volunteers
