Message from the Director

In my last Message from the Director I shared with readers our recent renovations that were made possible by the generosity of local families and organizations.  This month, I’m happy to report that the renovations are nearly complete.   By the time you are reading this, all of the final pieces will, hopefully, be completed.  It has been a very long process, spanning almost 2 and a half years, but as I predicted, well worth it.

In addition to the families and organizations, I would also like to thank the Library Board and Staff for their support and cooperation.  Although I have worked at the library for 20 plus years, it was when I was in “library school” in 2010 to 2012 that I began to see things I wanted to change throughout the library.  Discussing with department heads and working together with staff, I presented some of the ideas to Mr. Schneider, he was always supportive of these changes.  Once I was appointed the Director in 2014, I began to openly discuss larger ideas with my co-workers.  They helped me realize the vision and helped plan for workflow.  However, it was the support of the library board that really gave me the confidence to move forward with the renovations.  As I discussed last time, without the generosity of so many families and organizations none of these plans would have come to fruition.   It is truly a great feeling to be part of a supportive community and group of co-workers.  I do have a great team here at the Mercer County District Library!
When there are so many people we would like to thank, there is no better way to do so than by having a party.  Along with the Library Board and Staff, in celebration and recognition of the recent renovation and additions, I would like to cordially invite you to attend our Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 6 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  All areas of the library will be open to showcase the renovations.  There is no formal program, rather guided and self-guided tours will be offered.  There will also be light refreshments served.  I hope to see each of you there!
