THE SHOULDER SEASON

Late fall, a time for big fish and solitude. I find it funny that some of the best times of the year are often the quietest on our streams. If you follow our shop regularly you know I have plugged these "shoulder seasons" as some great fishing times for those willing to deal with a little more adverse conditions. No longer has your favorite water been fished by numerous anglers, you can have your pick of any run and often times the bigger fish are willing to eat. Their food supply and metabolism will soon be slowing down, so fishing deeper and slower may be on the menu more than dry flies. 

A few of my fishing buddies say this is when their fishing season is just starting... I would echo that and follow it up with the question, "When did it ever stop?"

  INTRO TO FISHING SOFT HACKLES  - VIDEO

Soft hackles flies and techniques have been around for quite some time. They are often some of the simplest styles of flies and the techniques used to fish them are really pretty straight forward. Despite being over shadowed by many of today's more modern flies, soft hackles are really excellent patterns for fishing caddis / mayfly emergences. BEGINNER FLY TYING CLASS - NEW DATE ADDED

Our first beginner fly tying class of November sold out so quick we decided to add another date to the fall schedule. The next Beginner Fly Tying Class (Fly Tying Level I) will be November 10/11. This two night course is designed for folks looking to start fly tying, or dust off the cobwebs if it has been awhile. We will teach you 4 patterns which will give you a solid foundation for many other patterns. As always, we supply the tools, materials, and great instruction! Looking for a winer hobby? Fly tying is great for these long, cold nights.

SCIENTIFIC ANGLERS GPX LINE -
This iconic line has stood the test of time. Such a great all around line for many different road actions. Despite this line being a half weight heavier, it really works well with many rod actions and casting styles. A great line for everything from dry/dropper rigs to streamers and not too clunky for throwing some small dries either. Love this line. Luckily it will be continued in the Sharkwave Series. The new line (MPX Taper) replacing this seems to be a winner so far from what we can tell. Currently we have GPX lines from 3wt - 9wt.
