Regular Events coming up over the next few week
  • Wednesday,  November 4, 7:00 pm: Celtic Prayer Service in the Chapter Room with Pat Gerrand.
  • Thursday, November 5, 12:00 - 1:00 pm: Scripture & Sandwich (Chapter Room).
  • Friday, November 13, 6:00 pm (In Conversation Potluck Supper in the Chapter Room. Ann Barry has agreed to inspire out conversation. More info: Jane Colgan Joyce Dreilich,  Bill Taylor 
  • Thursday, November 19, 7:00 - 9:00 pm: Benedictine Spiritual  Practice with The Rev. Dr. Martin Brokenleg, OSBCn & Gene Sederstrom, OSBCn.
Sunday, November 15: Our Place Dinner. Volunteers please gather at 3:30 pm for dinner service at 4:45 pm. Everyone is welcome to join us.  For more information, contact Sue Simpson.  
November 8: Remembrance Sunday.
We have a special guest preacher this week. Come and listen to Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands and Leader of the Green Party. She'll be preaching at the 9:15 am and 11:00 am services. 
November 8: Choral Evensong on Remembrance Sunday
This Sunday’s Choral Evensong we will remember through the music of composers from the First World War period the sacrifice of those who served our nation in all wars.  Please join St Christopher Singers at 4:30 pm for this hour of peace and reflection. in the Chapter Room: Inspiring Lives

Our study of Inspirational Christian leaders concludes with two female "saints", Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Aboriginal Canadian Topdewin (Gladys Cook).  Both of these women came from humble beginnings, but their dedication to God and their work inspired many to follow their example. More info: Marilyn Gough
CCC School
Poinsettia Fundraiser

The Poinsettias are for sale at $12.00 each for a 6.5" pot. Completed order forms need to be at the school office by November 13. You can pick up a form from the front desk at the Cathedral Office. This is a great way to support our Cathedral School!

November Outreach
Our outreach this month is: First Call: BC Child and Youth Coalition.
This is a non-partisan coalition of over 95 provincial and regional organizations who have united their voices to put children and youth first in BC through public education, community mobilization, and public policy advocacy.
 
Bell Ringers AGM
The 2016 North American Guild of Change Ringers of North American Guild of Change Ringers Annual General Meeting will be held in Victoria BC on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Full details regarding the ringing course and supplemental events prior to and following the AGM will be announced shortly.

CapriCCio Vocal Ensemble

In Remembrance.
CapriCCio presents Louis Vierne’s powerful Messe Solennelle Op. 16, for choir and two organs, and music of Eleanor Daley – with traditional Remembrance Day observances.

Annual Christmas Bazaar

Planning for the Christmas Bazaar is well under way.For info: Maureen Bennett

Saturday, November 21,
Musical Open House for
St. Cecilia's Day
10:00 am - 4:30 pm, closing with Choral Evensong at 4:30 pm

Come and listen to the Cathedral Choir in rehearsal for the Advent Carol Service, followed by a variety of musicians (including the Victoria Accordian Club and Odd Hack Band) and finishing with the St. Christopher Singers at 3:30 pm in rehearsal for Choral Evensong. The event will end with Choral Evening, beginning at 4:30 pm.
This is a great opportunity to visit the Bazaar and hear some fabulous music on the same day. You can go back and forth between the two venues.

Book Launch:
Don Grayston's new book, Thomas Merton and the Noonday Demon: The Camaldoli Correspondence: The event will take place in the Chapter Room.
Presentation, Q+A session, refreshments, books available for sale (and signing) at author's price ($30CAN, cash or cheque only--it's $35US on Amazon, i.e., $47CAN). 
Merton, the outstanding Christian spiritual writer of the 20th century, was one of the four great Americans mentioned by the Pope when he spoke to the US Congress in September--Lincoln, King, Dorothy Day--and Thomas Merton! He was in good company, as were the others!

Choral Evensong with the Cathedral Schola.

The Cathedral Schola will be performing at this service. If you haven't heard them before, you are in for a treat. The group is led by choral scholar, Merryn Ross.

Advent Carol Service

It is only a month to one of our best loved services of the year with Music Director, Michael Gormley and the Cathedral Choir. This is a wonderful way to welcome the Advent season.
It is strongly advised that you come early for good seating. There will be no reserved seating. For a reminder of this beautiful service, check out our photo gallery from 2014 by clicking here.
Upcoming dates at CCC School

Poinsetta Fundraiser  The poinsettias come in 6.5" pot and cost $12 each. Order forms are available at the school or from the Cathedral Office. Deadline is November 13.
Remembrance Day Assembly — Monday, November 9th from 9:00 - 10:00 am. Poppies will be available by donation.
Wednesday, November 11th — Remembrance Day. School is closed. Lux Mundi is not available.
