As fall ends and winter begins, what’s new?

NEW BOOK OUT: To celebrate Allen's 70th birthday this August, Rachel and I lightly edited his Vietnam War novel for publication. And it's out! If you are on GoodReads, you can sign up for a giveaway that starts November 4 and runs through November 15. You can also check Amazon for a few free Kindle download days honoring Veteran's Day (November 10-12).

Reaching tells the story of a young man drafted into the Vietnam War, how he survives and protects the men of his unit, and, finally, how he becomes a soldier, without sacrificing his integrity. Early readers call the book intense, harrowing, and unforgettable for its memorable characters. This is not an easy read for it asks us to reconsider the reality of war. As long as we send our young men and women to fight, such stories need to be written and read.

UPDATE ON RIVERS OF STONE: My own writing goes well for Book 3 of the McDonnell saga set in the 1840s. In Rivers of Stone, Catriona, disguised as a boy, follows Dougal to join the Hudson's Bay Company. After landing at York Factory in Upper Manitoba, Cat finds work as a clerk in a trading post there, but Dougal is assigned to travel west with a fur brigade almost immediately.

Separated by roughly 2,600 miles, how will Cat and Dougal reunite? Can Cat maintain her disguise? How changed will both Cat and Dougal be by journey's end? Anticipate a release by summer 2016.

OTHER WRITING NEWS: Two autographed copies of Years of Stonewill also be listed as a giveaway on GoodReads November 4-12. And, exciting news! I've just received files to review as Standing Stonesinches ever closer to audio book format.

Life otherwise is quiet. With temperatures this week topping out at 46 degrees, those fall leaves are flying fast, pure gold in heaps on the ground. I'm looking forward to an intense month of writing, reading, and quilting as we hunker down like bears to avoid the snow.

As always, if you do not want to receive my very occasional updates, please just let me know. Meanwhile, I wish you a short winter, good times with family and friends, and happy reading. I'd love to hear from you.

Best,

Beth
