"We continue to serve our country"

Manufacturing is important to people and to the United States and nothing showcases that more than our Faces of Manufacturing feature story launching today, Veteran's Day.

Stephen Hilliard and Chris Lucas, both served in branches of the military and now both work in different manufacturing companies in Pooler, Ga. producing products for the military.

Meet Chris and Stephen, the November Faces of Manufacturing. Read their story and see their video, as they describe the parallels between skill sets of veterans and working in industry and tell the stories of how products they've designed and produced have saved their fellow servicemen and servicewomen's lives.

Last night, the GaMEP, was honored to present Chris and Stephen with the Faces of Manufacturing award, during an event Georgia Tech Savannah held in celebration of the work that Georgia Tech is doing to help transition area military into the coastal workforce.

Georgia Tech Veterans Program

To coincide with Veterans Day, I wanted to introduce you to a great program out of the Georgia Tech Savannah Campus. The Veteran's Education Training and Transition (VET2) Program, helps transition veterans into manufacturing jobs. Partnering with the military and manufacturers across the state, the program combines classroom training customized for each company with onsite work at the plant, providing companies and veterans with a 21-day, hands-on job interview.

The program is a state-approved workforce program, offered at no cost to the veterans. James Wilburn, director, says, "Since its inception, all of the VET2 program graduates have received offers from the companies participating in the program."
