Dear <<First Name>>,
Have you forgotten that feeling, that high, that experience of joy and sadness, playing the part, being a messenger, a vessel.
You forgot that there are scientific studies praising the participation in music and art,
The health benefits, the raised white bold cell count, the relaxation response, the breathing,
The healing power of sound, or just the old saying, “singing is good for you.”
As part of the “RE for All” opportunities we would like to offer some musical experiences.
The Choir would like to invite anyone who enjoys singing to join us for three rehearsals before the “Breads of the World” Thanksgiving Service on November 22nd. The rehearsals would be the three Sunday mornings November 8, 15, 22 from 9:30-10:30 (the usual RE for All time) in the Sanctuary. We will be learning "O Sifuni Mungu" -an African setting of "All Creatures of the earth and sky" and "Panis Angelicus" by Cesar Franck. Laura Laing will sing the solo in the Franck.
If you are interested, please contact me at jhouston@ccbcmd.edu or just show up on Sunday morning. (Thanks to Melissa Feliciano for the opening words).
Hope to see you on the 8th!
Jim Houston
Music Director

November 8
11 a.m.
"Touch the Earth Lightly, Consider the Poor"
Rev. David Carl Olson
Pope Francis circulated a letter to his bishops and to the wider world inviting all people to consider the earth and her future. We think about how climate change affects “the least among us,” and even us.
(“Heart to Heart” discussion at 9:30 a.m.: Nature)
|
November 15
11 a.m.
"Embracing the Exile"
Rev. David Carl Olson
A community of transformation reaches out to those who exist on the margins, and express a luxurious welcome to our family and the safety of our sanctuary. In the days before the Transgender Day of Remembrance, we celebrate the lives of all sorts of gender non-conforming people and their culture of daring inquiry and generous inclusion.
(“Heart to Heart” discussion at 9:30 a.m.: Doubt)

Religious Education for All
Two of the adult religious education workshops/discussions are about to end, but there are more great options on the horizon! Beginning November 22, you can drop in on either of these new workshops/discussions.
Pilgrims & Strangers is continuing but with a different bent. This time, Gene will lead a discussion about Ta-nehisi Coates' piece from The Atlantic, “A Case for Reparations", as well as his book, Between the World and Me. Questions? Email Gene Slothour-Hudnall at gene.hudnall@gmail.com.
And if you’re looking for ways to better communicate and relate to those around you, check out Getting Along: Putting the Healthy Congregation tenets to work—everywhere!, led by Laura Laing and others. Families, workplaces, even Mommy Playgroups—they’re all emotional systems with naturally occurring anxiety. We’ll discuss strategies for interpersonal relationships that help these systems run like clockwork, while keeping you happy and healthy, too. Questions? Email Laura Laing at lelaing@gmail.com. (NOTE: This is not the Healthy Congregations workshop, which is offered by district in four intensive sessions. However, we will be learning about and applying some of the tenets from HC in this workshop.

Our Change for Change partner for November & December
Our Change for Change partner for the months of November and December 2015 is Friends of Dayspring Garden. A vacant lot in East Baltimore is now a thriving garden of lovely flowers and healthy vegetables. It is behind our partner, Dayspring, a residence for women recovering from substance use issues and their children. Many children, youth and adult volunteers from our church have contributed to the garden and participated in events at the garden with the residents and members of the surrounding community.
More information is available during Fellowship Hour at the SAC table.
