CLC Military Family Month
Each year the President signs a proclamation declaring November Military Family Month. This annual proclamation marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of the Military Family in which the Department of Defense and the nation will honor the commitment and sacrifices made by the families of the nation's service members.
Throughout the month of November, military families serving around the world are honored through a variety of observances and recognized for their commitment and the many contributions they make every day in support of the military and our nation. http://www.military.com/military-family-appreciation-month
CLC invites our U.S. military affiliated families to bring a photo for our lobby display. CLC will also collect letters and drawings of appreciation that will be delivered to our service members in collaboration with the UH Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Please have all letters dropped off to CLC by Monday, November 9th.
Join us for donuts in honor of our military families on the morning of Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th.

CLC would like to thank Dr. Karen Fern and her team from the UH College of Optometry for conducting our preschool vision screening in October. Results of the screening will go home in November.
In addition, CLC would like to thank the UH community for volunteering at the 40th Anniversary Celebration on October 30th. (See story from The Cougar) The Center for Diversity and Inclusion director Niya Blair was onsite serving cake. The UH Metropolitan Volunteer Program and The Student Society of Human Resource Development helped facilitate the children's activities. UH- Campus Carry Work Group
On June 13, 2015 Governor Greg Abbott signed into law Senate Bill No. 11 (S.B. 11), also known as the "campus carry" law. S.B. 11 amends Section 411.2031 of the Texas Government Code to allow carrying of handguns by license holders on college campuses beginning on August 1, 2016. While the University President may not generally prohibit license holders from carrying concealed weapons on the campus, the law gives public universities some discretion to regulate campus carry including designating certain areas on campus where concealed handguns are prohibited. The law authorizes the University to adopt and receive approval of its campus carry policy from the Board of Regents by August 1, 2016.
The University welcomes the input of faculty, staff, students, its stakeholders and the surrounding UH communities. An online survey is available to receive your comments and the University will hold a public forum in the coming months. Also, if you have any comments or questions, you can direct those comments and questions to campuscarry@uh.edu.
