40th Annual Pacific Contact: March 31 to April 3, 2016, Burnaby
Pacific Contact is BCTC’s annual showcase and booking conference for performing arts touring in BC. Conference activities take place at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown with showcases presented at the Michael J. Fox Theatre and Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
 
Pacific Contact Registration Begins November 16
On-line registration will open on November 16. The early bird deadline is January 15, 2016. Register on or before January 15 to have your name entered into a draw to win 3 nights accommodation at the conference hotel.

BC Touring Council in partnership with the BC Arts Council has launched the Aspiring & Emerging Artists Touring & Training Initiative. The goal is to increase opportunities for aspiring and emerging artists to engage in professional performing arts touring and presenting in BC. Some of the activities include:

AEA: Warming Up the Act Funding Program  - Deadline ongoing
Warming Up the Act (WUTA) provides financial assistance to presenters to engage aspiring and emerging BC artists as openers for main stage artists/acts presented as part of a series or season. The program is intended to serve clients of the Community Presenters Assistance and Community Presenter Youth Engagement Programs. More information is available at this link.
 
AEA Touring Workshop in Kelowna, Nov. 9 & 10
Registration deadline extended to Nov. 5
This two-day workshop for aspiring and emerging artists features sessions led by a group of accomplished artists, agents and presenters on topics such as the business of touring, pre-planning, managing a tour, marketing and promotion, applying to showcase and developing shows for different markets.

AEA: Second workshop: March 29 & 30, 2016 in Burnaby
A second workshop will be presented prior to Pacific Contact. Registration will be launched in January 2016.

Congratulations Lorne Elliott!
Lorne recently won a 2015 Playwrights Guild of Canada Award for a comedy he premiered in October at Grove Hall in Huntingdon, Quebec. Presented annually to a PGC-member for best comedy in development, the 2015 Family Comedy Award was bestowed on Lorne for his show, Mom Runs Amok.

BCTC Remembers: Leon Bibb & Bob Murphy
Legendary singer, actor and civil rights activist Leon Bibb passed way on October 23 in Vancouver. His theatrical and musical work earned him enormous praise over seven decades but he was most proud of his antiracism and anti-bullying work. He had a remarkable career and is considered a Canadian icon.
 
One of Canada's foremost jazz musicians, Bob Murphy, passed away on October 22. Bob performed professionally as a jazz pianist by the time he was 14 years old, and went on to become a prominent player and leader in the Toronto and Vancouver music scenes. Bob will be remembered for his compassion, humour, understanding, and kind spirit.

Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta: Congratulations Steve Derpack
It was announced today that Steve Derpack will assume the role of Executive Director of the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta (ATAA). Since 1993 the ATAA has been dedicated to the maintenance, development and growth of a strong touring arts industry in Alberta.
 
BC Arts Council Grants including Touring Initiatives: Deadline Dec. 1
Applications are now being accepted for several project assistance programs offered by the BC Arts Council including Touring initiatives. This program supports B.C. artists and arts organizations undertaking touring activities outside the province that will lead to enhanced professional opportunities.

BC Provincial Multiculturalism Grants: Deadline December 13
Organizations whose activities promote BC’s multicultural heritage, and nurture empathy and inclusion may be eligible for a project grant of up to $5,000.

CAPACOA's The Culture of inClusion Conference, November 25-28, Ottawa
Registration is open for the 28th annual CAPACOA Conference. The conference will investigate and explore the many facets of inclusion.
 
Fall/Winter UBC Online Cultural Planning Courses & Workshops
Registration is open for online professional development courses and workshops offered by the international University of British Columbia (UBC) Centre for Cultural Planning and Development. Courses and workshops can be taken individually or applied to the UBC Certificate in Cultural Planning.

Ontario Contact: Bid on an Item & Help an Artist- Deadline: Nov. 7
The on-line Annual Silent Auction raises funds to support professional development for emerging artists, agents/managers and presenters in the performing arts sector. Items include a trip to New York, hotel nights, a 4-night stay in Newfoundland and other items.
