Please read on to find out the latest news and info from Engine Shed, including an exciting range of events coming up and opportunities to get to know and collaborate with other Engine Shed users. If you have any news or information you would like to share with the fellow Engine Shed community, please let us know and we can include it in future bulletins.

Engine Shed is doing its annual users survey to gather valuable feedback on how we can improve services and understand our users. We would appreciate it if all users of Engine Shed could complete the users suvery.

Events at Engine Shed:
  • TLT/Engine Shed briefing -  term sheet hack - 19 November, 8.30 am - 10.00 am. Join TLT's venture capital experts for breakfast and coffee to de-construct a term sheet for an equity investment, so you know what the terms mean, what is standard and what isn't, and the areas to negotiate to achieve the best result for you and your business.
  • SETsquared Workshop - Sales Processes - 16 November 9 am - 11 am. £25 for external delegates, free for SETsquared members and mentors and a limited number free for Bristol and Bath students.
  • Engine Shed/Temple Studios Mixer Breakfast - Email Lorraine Fairbanks if you can make it. Give A Monkeys Fundraiser - 24 November, 8.00 am - 9.30 am. Engine Shed users please join us and mix with our creative/digital neighbours from Temple Studios over coffee and pastriesThe last event of 2015 to help us reach this year's pledge of £500 towards West of England charity projects.
    Sustainable Travel Week - 16th - 20th November
  • A week focussing on sustainable travel at Engine Shed providing information, news and events to tenants, members and users of Engine Shed. Part of our 2015 Travel Week, to promote, raise awareness and implement strategies to encourage sustainable methods of travel to the site.  
    Events include:
  • Travel West Roadshow on Monday 16 November from 11 am - 2 pm, with a winter walking theme. Come and chat to the travel advisors in the business lounge for free information, advice and goody bags.
  • Found Property Day - A last change to claim your lost property that has lived at Engine Shed for the last 2 years. Unclaimed items can be bought for a donation to Give A Monkeys, anything leftover will be donated to the Children's Scrap Store.
  • Free Cycle safety Presentation/Discussion - 18 November, 1 pm - 1:45pm in the Junction, book here.
  • Free Travel West Bike Maintenance Workshop (Punctures) - 20 November, 12.30pm - 1.30pm Please book by emailing Engine Shed reception and bring your own bicycle and multitool if you have one. Spaces are limited.

Open to everyone to find out about the great tech, creative and low carbon projects happening in Bristol and Bath, from Monday to Friday 8.30 am - 5.30 pm. Free admission.

Current Exhibition 
City of Bristol College presents 'Celebrating Colour in Winter'

The exhibition represents the starkness of Winter through a set of pale and colourless objects. These will be transformed over eight weeks by City of Bristol College students in innovative and creative ways. We wish to show how Winter coldness and paleness can be reversed with colour, energy and light.

This exhibition runs until 18 December

Bristol Business Summit This two day event in October was focused on the challenges, as well as the huge opportunities, of an era where the world is changing faster than ever before – from climate change to changing markets and limited resources to massive urban growth. Ask About Me 
Engine Shed participated in the Ask About Me event in October - a pioneering event staged by Babbasa - that connects young people in Bristol with the city’s professionals, entrepreneurs and business leaders so they can learn about diverse career options and gain help through mentoring.

Festival of Female Entrepreneurs
A day in October at Colston Hall attracted hundreds of entrepreneurs – male and female – for the Festival of Female Entrepreneurs, all eager to hear from a range of expert speakers. The event, staged by Enterprise Nation, also featured workshops, exhibitions and networking opportunities.

Centre for Cities Senior Analyst Naomi Clayton visited Bristol and produced a video telling us how the city has become a hub for creative, digital and media SMEs

Engine Shed has six meeting and event spaces for hire that are open to all for meetings, conferences and networking events. To find out more, have a look at what they're like in our image gallery and to book please visit our boardroom suite.

Business lounge
Members of our lounge have access to innovation pods and tables on a first come, first served basis for informal meetings and work near to one of the UK's most connected transport hubs, Bristol Temple Meads, free wifi or eduroam connection and use of our cafe. Current membership list is available.

Co-working space in the Saloon Car - open to all

Managed by Forward and with access to Engine Shed's business lounge, the new tenants of Boxworks shipping container office development will be moving in soon at Clock Tower Yard. More info coming in the December issue...

Emergency Cycle Repair Kit at Engine Shed
Engine Shed now has all the tools needed for fixing bicycle punctures, even a selection of inner tubes, as well as spare lights, and a lock and cable to borrow in your time of need.  Ask reception for details.
The Bristol SETsquared Centre, with its peer centres at Bath, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey has, for the 3rd time in a row, retained it's no.1 UBI ranking spot in Europe! The world rankings are announced on 25th November. Full article here.

SETsquared Bristol are also delighted to announce some of their member's recent successes. University of Bristol spin-out Ultrahaptics have just announced a £10.1m Series A funding round led by Woodford Investment Management. Read the full article here.  Also based at the Engine Shed, SETsquared member BOXARR, the world's leading provider of Interdependent Systems Management (ISM) software, has just received additional investment of £2 million provided by existing shareholder IP Group plc and new investor Parkwalk. The investment will be used to accelerate growth in the aerospace and defence industries and means that BOXARR can significantly accelerate its growth plans. More info in the full article.

SETsquared Bristol is the University of Bristol backed high-tech high growth business incubator supporting high tech start-ups, providing student enterprise and enabling academics to maximise the impact of their research. 

WebStart Bristol opened in early 2014 and is supporting its third cohort of startups with exciting ideas for new apps and web services. 

Invest Bristol and Bath is the award winning investment promotion agency for the Bristol and Bath region working on behalf of the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership and four Local Authorities in the region. It supports foreign direct investment, UK national companies and those companies already in the region as they grow and expand with hands on advice and intelligence.
In the forthcoming weeks Invest Bristol and Bath will be trialling a few new tools that they will make more widely available to businesses. They will be developing special feedback channels so if one of their advocates (or ambassadors) finds a company that might want to set up in Bristol and Bath, Invest Bristol and Bath have a way of coming in and supporting it. West of England LEP is a public/private partnership between the region’s four local councils (Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire) and the local business community. It has been tasked by government with delivering sustainable economic growth to the region: creating jobs, developing a skilled workforce and encouraging inward investment to the West of England. 

Bristol & Bath by Design is a comprehensive 18-month project mapping and measuring the value and impact of design in the city region. The project, funded by the Design Council and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), brings together UWE Bristol, Bath Spa University and Bristol University along with regional partners West of England Design Forum, Bristol Media, Creative Bath, the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the REACT Knowledge Exchange Hub. The project will work closely with companies, organisations and individuals through surveys, in-depth interviews, focus groups and events.
