Cumbria Wildlife Recorders' Conference 2015

We are excited to share the programme for Saturday's Cumbria Wildlife Recorders' Conference with you below. Not yet booked? Don't worry, there are still a few remaining places - but online booking has finished, so you'll need to call the Tullie House Museum box office on 01228 618700 during office hours. We hope you are looking forward to it as much as we are.

There are still slots available on the Open Mike session but these usually fill up so please try to let Gary know before the day if you'd like to contribute. Open Mike items can be a maximum of 5 minutes in length. Email: recordingofficer@cbdc.org.uk

We would also like to remind everyone that any posters and leaflets sharing recording activities / surveys / schemes or advertising local recording groups etc. are most welcome at the conference. We have boards to enable you to pin up any posters. Please let Gary know in advance about any particularly bulky items as space is limited.

Farewell from Teresa

I am sad to say that Saturday will be my last day at CBDC. I'm so proud of all we've achieved since I joined Tullie House Museum as CBDC Manager in 2010. We've run fantastic conferences, bioblitzes, workshops and recording days, worked on some fascinating collaborative projects with the county's conservation organisations and recording groups and made much more data available for the county's decision makers - with the number of records in the CBDC Recorder 6 database increasing from half a million to two million records over the past five years! We now have a great website to showcase our work and I am especially fond of the animated logo on our home page. I hope you agree with me that CBDC fulfils an essential role in the county and that you'll continue to support the Centre.

I'll continue taking a close interest in Cumbrian wildlife recording and I'm continuing to work in biodiversity data - my new role is Wetland Bird Survey National Organiser at the British Trust for Ornithology in Thetford, Norfolk. I've learnt a huge amount about wildlife from working with all of you, and of course I'll always be a recorder myself now! One of the projects closest to my heart we've been working on with Cumbria Bird Club for the past few years is the Cumbria Online Bird Atlas, so I'm really pleased that we have finished this in time to launch it at this Saturday's conference. I hope to see many of you on Saturday, but if not, I'll be a regular visitor to Cumbria so I'm sure our paths will cross again. It has been pleasure and a privilege to work with Matt, Moustafa and Gary, colleagues in the Museum, our amazing office volunteers, and with all the wildlife recorders, partners and stakeholders across Cumbria and beyond - thank you all.
