I just had the privilege and honor of visiting India and spending 3 lovely adventure-filled weeks in that fascinating country amongst its enchanting peoples. I had traveled there last year with Rauna May, attending a Retreat put on by the folks at Family Services, at which time we had a chance to get at least a little acquainted with the country and it’s people—let’s say we got a TASTE, and a spicy one at that! Due to time restraints, it was sort of an in-and-out thing, on the tail of a 10-day visit to Spain, so we didn’t really have a chance to do more than basically ‘sense’ what India was like.
Even so, I was charmed at that time by the sweetness and sincerity of the people I met, and I was touched by the servile nature of the staff at the hotel where the event was hosted. I was also very impressed by our hosts from Family Services. It all went so fast and was over nearly as quickly as it started, with us departing the morning after finishing the Retreat, at break of day, on the long journey home [24 hours flying time].
This year we were invited back, both Rauna and I, to participate in this years’ Retreat; only this time we made sure to schedule a couple of days before and a couple of days after, a full week ,so we could enjoy working with and getting to know the Family Services staff, as well as to get to see a bit more of the Hyderabad area.
An extra treat was that my wife, Marianne, got to attend the same Retreat, so that made it extra special for me. I wanted her to get to know the folks at Family Services, and take in some of what I had enjoyed so thoroughly last year.
The Retreat went well and was very meaningful, with everyone seeming to get a lot from our participation—and us also enjoying our time ministering to and learning from them. They are faithful to unite friends and co-laborers they have worked with over the years for this ‘time away’ to refresh and be strengthened in their individual service for the Lord, and it was a pleasure and honor to be amongst them all.
They have a great work going all year round which you can learn about at the following link to their site. They are at this moment organizing a Christmas event called ‘Make a Wish.’ They gather gifts to distribute to over 1000 seniors, in eight different cities, and they share the true meaning of Christmas with them through an enjoyable Christmas program.
Don’t miss helping, they’re worthy of your support!!
