SCIENTISTS SAY SAVE THE RAYS
The
killing contests that target gentle cownose rays are back in the news, and the news is good! Scientists at a recent government-sponsored workshop presented evidence that the rays need and deserve protection. CBS, WBAL, The Baltimore Sun, etc., reported on the workshop, which was attributed to public outcry generated by the investigation that Fish Feel and
SHARK conducted. A workshop report is due out by year’s end.
“Lifelong angler and hunter” Ted Williams also condemns the contests in his
article “Wing-Shooting Cows: Undersea Flyers Persecuted For Uncommitted Sins,” published in the current issue of Outdoor America, a publication of the pro-fishing/hunting Izaak Walton League of America.
Please keep the pressure on to help the rays by signing and SHARING
the petition against the massacres. Thank you!
FISH FEEL’S FIRST FISH RESCUE
In mid-October, Fish Feel teamed up with
City Wildlife and the
Washington Humane Society for an
emergency rescue of thousands of goldfish and guppies from a Washington, D.C. condominium's one-acre pool that was being drained. The majority of the fish who were saved will spend the rest of their lives in a two-acre pond in rural Maryland. Kudos to these organizations for helping fish! Please let others know what a bad idea it is to put fish in such inappropriate places as they can quickly multiply and face dire consequences.
Fish Feel was also consulted in regard to the
problematic draining of a large retention pond in Clarksburg, Md.
EVENTS AND PRESENTATIONS
It’s been another busy
event season! Fish Feel staffed exhibits at more than a dozen events in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. We spoke with people ranging from vegans to fishermen, handing out thousands of fact sheets and other literature. Our brochure is also being distributed on the West Coast and in the U.K.
Fish Feel’s Mary Finelli gave presentations at over half a dozen various conferences and other events, including the
Animal Rights National Conference and the
Conscious Eating Conference (Berkeley, Ca.). At the
Reel & Meal event, Mary showed and discussed
Sea the Truth while the audience enjoyed a vegan seafood dinner and was treated to
Gardein’s fishless filet samples. Fish Feel also again participated in the
NYC Veggie Pride Parade.
Mary was interviewed on
Fins and Fluke Radio and on
In Tune to Nature, and she was a repeat guest on
The Louie b. Free Radio Show. She was also a featured speaker for the on-line seminar
Live Vegan Vibrantly.
PARTNERS & APPRECIATION
Fish Feel is pleased to partner with
Fins and Fluke, an ocean and marine life advocacy organization. Our alliance includes promoting vegan seafood options. See for example:

crabless cakes and Safeway is now carrying
Sophie’s Kitchen vegan seafood products.
It is a much appreciated honor for Fish Feel’s Mary Finelli to be featured in the
Unbound Project, which celebrates female animal rights advocates and seeks to inspire people “to do what they can to make the world a kinder, gentler place for all species.”
Sincere gratitude to
Compassion Company for selecting Fish Feel as its featured organization: “a non-profit organization that we feel does important work to change the world for animals” by “helping to bridge the empathy gap that currently exists with fish.” Compassion Company, which offers the coolest, organic, sweatshop free, vegan apparel, donated 5% of all sales made during a 2-month period, presenting Fish Feel with $710.68. Thank you SO much, Compassion Company!
