Benefits of Participating in Standards-Making

For UK experts involved in international and European standardisation activities it can sometimes be difficult to get line managers and/or companies to  understand the benefits of their employees participation. Several tools have been produced to assist you in explaining the advantages of your active participation in standards-making and help you in making a business case to your employer.

BSI has a brochure highlighting some of the personal and organizational benefits of getting involved in standards development which can be downloaded from the BSI website here.

IEC have recently produced tools based on advice from several Chairs of IEC Technical Committees and a series of articles by the Director of Standardization of a major international company which should allow you to make the case for active participation. These tools can be accessed through a new web zone which can be accessed via their website here.

ISO have several quotes from companies on their website explaining the benefits of getting involved which can be accessed here whilst case studies on the wider benefits of standardisation can be accessed from the webpage here.
