1. All about dog sledding in Alaska’s Golden Heart City

With a longstanding dog mushing history, it is no wonder Fairbanks has become a dog-mushing mecca. The new Bouchard’s International Dog Mushing and Sled Museum, located in downtown Fairbanks, represents mushing’s past and present with more than 1,000 items, such as a wide variety of sleds, mushing artifacts and educational materials. Museumgoers will learn the history of Alaska’s official state sport and have a chance to see memorabilia from former Iditarod champions as well as Alaska Native artwork. Visitors to the Golden Heart City can test their own skills and experience what it takes to lead a dog team with sled dog rides and tours from more than 10 different kennels in the Fairbanks area. There are various tours offered ranging from hour-long excursions to multi-day trips. Travelers to Fairbanks can also experience the thrill of a sled dog race in person. Fairbanks is the starting point for the 2016 Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race, a challenging 1,000-mile race from Fairbanks to Whitehorse, Yukon. On Feb. 6, 2016, mushers will embark on the annual 10-16 day journey beginning on the frozen Chena River. Teams will wind their way through difficult terrain in winter temperatures, following the historic gold rush and mail delivery routes from Alaska’s early days. 2. New zipline tour coming to Denali National Park & Preserve

The newest member of the Denali Park Adventures family, Denali Park Zipline, will open to the public in summer 2016 near the entrance to Denali National Park & Preserve. Visitors will be able to take full advantage of the newly constructed zipline course, which features a total of eight zips, six suspension bridges and a half-mile of lines. The three-hour tour offers challenges for the more adventurous travelers, but is also a great place to start for any members of the group who haven’t been ziplining before. Knowledgeable guides take guests through the course, which highlights the breathtaking forest and tundra of the Denali park entrance area. The excursion costs $139 for adults and $99 for children.

While Denali Park Zipline is new for 2016, Denali Park Adventures has been operating two adventure businesses in the area for several years, Denali ATV Adventures and Denali Jeep Excursions. Travelers have the option to combine tour packages for action-packed days full of family fun. Whether cruising along trails on an ATV, taking in sights of wildlife in a jeep on the Denali Highway or soaring above it all by zipline, Denali Park Adventures has something for every level of adventurer.
