Siri Singh Sahib Quote
"Every child is born as karma to parents, but also every child is born as karma to himself or herself. There is double action and people mostly forget this. One is the karma to parents, the other is the karma to the self, and in between a person has to develop and grow and become free."
New Sangat Member - Padmani Kaur
I was raised in Lancaster, PA. I never felt at home there, I promised my dad I would never live in Lancaster after moving to Syracuse NY for college (never say never). I got married and raised my 2 kids in Lancaster, PA. My inspiration is sadhana and sangat! When I left working the KRI immersion program last year, I said I could "never" live in New Mexico. It is too slow, too hot, and too lonely. Well, "never say never" strikes again. I developed an autoimmune disorder that is forcing me to physically slow down, and I have received such a welcoming embrace from people here. It feels like home! I want to live where my heart sings and in New Mexico it sings every day.

Community Garden Sevadars
Bhagat Bir Singh - is our lead gardener. He's originally from NYC and Hungary and moved here permanently last Spring with the intent of living a strong yogic lifestyle. He was one of the leaders of the Summer Solstice setup crew last summer. He's a dedicated yogi and very committed to the Community Garden project. He's planning on being here through next Summer at least.

Corinne - is from LA and came to us through the WWOOFR web site. She has a son Atlas who has been going to Trio school when Corinne is working. Corinne and Atlas are staying very near the garden with some sangat members that wish to remain anonymous. She and Atlas will be here a just one more week.

Jai Mohan Singh - is from Australia (Sydney) and came to us through the KRI Immersion course - he saw what we're doing and wanted to stay on and help out. He also a very committed yogi (sadhana every day) and a tireless worker. When there's a tough problem to be solved, we all look to Jai Mohan because we know he will "get the job done!".

Preeti - is from California and also came to us through the KRI Immersion course, and she's also a very dedicated yogi (sadhana and extra yoga sets every day). She sings beautifully. She loves working in the garden - to her it is a great great gift. She'll be here through November.

We deliver 295 bags of food each week for children in the Food for Kids Program.  Most of the children who receive these bags of food have nothing else to eat all weekend! On Friday afternoons, the school hands out the bags of food to them. Just small things; an apple, a banana, a small can of beans & rice, a serving of juice, milk, a granola bar, raisins, cheese sticks, and if we have money, 2 servings of cereal.  If it were not for these bags of food, these children would go hungry. That is how it is. Some of them are lucky enough to get one or two meals. We currently serve 3 schools.  One school has 92% of the children at or below poverty level; at another school it is 85% of the kids. So you can see what a huge amount of help and support is needed here.  We could feed more children, but we need more money. We have 2 schools waiting.  One school has over 300 kids and we give them 180 bags. That means only 62% of 92% of the children in need get weekly bags. Read entire article

Making Our Connections
By Guruka Singh
This month I’m going to write a bit about cables. Yeah, I know it seems mundane, but we all have them and I’ve seen lots of issues with them. Next month (December) this column will be about Smartphone apps. Most of the best are available for both Apple and Android phones. I’ve spent a long time culling them and separating the wheat from the chaff, so in December I’ll pick out my faves and share them with everybody here. Read More Here>
Yogi Bhajan: The Best of All the Rest
By Harijiwan Singh
“Who’s the greatest spiritual teacher of all time.” Well, that was quite a question the Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan, asked a small group of us at a restaurant in Westwood in the fall of 1987. My first thought was, "Why would he ask such a question? I know he won’t claim himself as the answer. So, who and why is he promoting someone else? It must be one of the Gurus. I know that’s what he thinks." Read entire article >
The Guru's Langar Kitchen
Thank you for your contributions!
Thanks to your support we are now managing to keep a good supply of bulk items in our kitchen. Our next goal is to upgrade some of the langar kitchen equipment that is in desperate need. The good news is that Sikh Dharma New of Mexico (SDNM) is willing to match the money we raise! We would like to raise enough money to buy new burners, an industrial dishwasher, and a double door locking refrigerator and freezer. Your contributions can make this happen! Support your Community!
