Volunteer Corner

Volunteers are extremely important to Better Days!  If you are interested in helping Better Days by providing support for resident care, facilities maintenance, our thrift stores or fundraising, please visit the volunteer section of the website.  This month, meet Kelly!

Kelly has been a dedicated volunteer with BDAL for a few years now, and has never hesitated to jump at an opportunity to help our furry friends!  All while working full time, Kelly assists with both cat and dog care, but is committed to our kitties one weekday evening in addition to any weekend we are short of volunteers.  She participates in our fundraisers, and has been known to make one mean walking taco!  She even organized a work day with her co-workers for several badly needed upgrades at the shelter!  Kelly graciously offers her awesome truck when it's time to haul the 40lb bags of wood stove pellets we use as kitty litter.  Oh but she doesn't stop there with her willingness to serve our community, she volunteers at the Theraputic Riding Center too.  Kelly has also opened both her heart and home to adopt 2 of our "special needs" kitties.  She is always available and more than willing to help all our furry residents, and BDAL thanks Kelly for her service!

If you are interested in dedicating time to animals in need, please visit our volunteer page to submit our short application and we will be in touch with you soon!

Featured Adoptable Pets!

Meet Dottie!  Dottie is a small, young adult fox terrier mix looking for a patient home to call her own.  Dottie came to the shelter as a stray.  Dottie was very timid when she came to the shelter but is slowly coming out of her shell.  She likes to be held and petted once she knows she can trust you.  Dottie is still getting used to going for a walk on a leash and will need a family who can help her with potty training.  She loves to romp around a fenced in area but also enjoys snuggling up in a cozy dog bed.    For more information or to meet Dottie, please fill out an adoption application or view her PetFinder ad.
Meet Pork Chop! Pork Chop is indeed, well, a pork chop but this snuggly, friendly guy would make a great addition to a home looking for an affectionate kitty friend.  Pork Chop is FIV positive and while this will not effect his ability to live a long, happy life, the disease is transmittable to other cats (though only through bites). The disease also affects his immune system, which could require that he have to go to the vet if he gets a cold or other respiratory issues. Due to him being FIV positive, it is recommended that Pork Chop be the only cat in the family. To meet Pork Chop, please fill out an adoption application or visit his Petfinder ad.
