Dear colleagues and SAWBO friends, we are excited to share our monthly newsletter with you! In this newsletter we highlight some of the places around the world where SAWBO is making a difference, and also some of our upcoming animations.  As always, please feel free to share your suggestions with us at animations@illinois.edu.

PHL Sat Test 3D
Postharvest Loss: Salt Testing for Grain Moisture Levels 3D
This animation explains a method to test if your grain has a low enough moisture level for you to store it. This technique utilizes salt to help determine the moisture level in your grain. Funding from the
ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss has supported this animation.

New Animations in our Video Library


Today we have over 500 different animations in our Video Library, with 52 different topics, in more than 70 languages. Here are the latest releases:

We’d like to thank the ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss for sponsoring a graduate student here at UIUC to translate our entire Video Library into Bengali. Amrita Kataruka, a UIUC graduate student, has done a wonderful job. Please view our Bengali playlist

This animation explains how to transport grains using best practices for bag transportation. It deals with how to prepare the truck beds and the use of tarps to minimize postharvest losses during transportation of the grain.
Tuberculosis Prevention in Bengali
Tuberculosis Prevention in Bengali (accent from India)
Tuberculosis is a common infection and contagious disease caused by a bacterium that usually lodges in the lungs. TB is treatable and curable. The video illustrates some significant preventative measures to protect yourself and others from getting this disease.
Survival Gardening in Swahili
Charity Chebet is one of our many talented volunteers. She has recently translated three of our Survival Gardening animations into Swahili with an accent from Kenya. She is currently working on translating our Clubfoot animation.  Thank you Charity for helping us spread these animations even further!

Survival Gardening in Swahili (accent from Kenya)
Our Survival Gardening series shows farmers how to create compost, raised planting beds, and a drip irrigation system for their crops.  These three concepts combined together prove to increase yields.

This animation will show how the SAWBO Deployer app can travel with our collaborators to help spread knowledge to many people and communities across the globe.

We are developing an animation about eating healthy foods.  Healthy eating helps children and their parents live healthy lives. Healthy food fuels our bodies, and gives us the energy to make us feel good. Living a balanced life includes regular physical activity, enough sleep, and good nutrition.

Grain should always be dried before storage. A solar grain dryer can be built very inexpensively. This 3D animation will show you the supplies you need, the tools you'll use, and the steps you'll take to do so.

Samuel Amoa-Mensa CLCD Ghana
Dr. Samuel Amoa-Mensa is the director of the Centre for Learning and Community Development (CLCD) in Ghana. His goal is to make the community self-reliant and reduce the amount of poverty. He is pursuing his goal by making educational content available to the entire community and teaching them valuable skills that will improve their working capabilities.
