Monday, November 16 - 6:00pm - Winter Survival Series #1
Imagine for a moment: You are traveling this winter in your vehicle, it's blizzard conditions out, and your car breaks down, enters the ditch, etc.  There is no cell phone service due to the weather and the nearest town/ service area is 10 miles away.  How do you survive the night?
Or you have planned this glorious winter camping trip for the weekend.  The weather looks pretty good and the forecast isn't calling for any snow, aside from a possible minor dusting on Saturday night and temperatures look pretty mild.  You, being the ever-prepared outdoorsy type, are still planning for it being cold, and you know that if things get wet, even 30 degrees feels like -10.  So, what do you bring?  What techniques do you need if the "dusting" turns south and becomes a blizzard?  What if you end up having to stay out longer than originally planned due to the weather?  Come to Midwest Mountaineering and learn from Steve Schreader, our expert Extreme Survivalist, as he hosts a series of clinics dedicated to providing techniques focused on ensuring your survival this winter, should you need it.  The first in this series will be a hands on clinic where Steve will speak and explain about those items that go into various types of survival kits, things found right in your own home for next to nothing, and where you will even walk away with your very own winter survival kit that you can use this winter.  Expedition Room, Midwest Mountaineering

Tuesday, November 17 - 6:30pm - Fly Tying with Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop
Have you ever wanted to learn how to tie your own fly and where to catch a fish with it?  This is the clinic for you.  Robert Hawkins, owner of Bob Mitchell's Fly Shop in Lake Elmo Minnesota, will be teaching you how to tie a few fly patterns that work well in our area for trout and bass or panfish.  We will talk about areas to fly fish close to the metro and how to use your fly effectively. All materials will be provided, just show up with limber wrists and your glasses if you have a hard time seeing things close up.  Fly tying is one of those rare things that a machine has not yet been invented for, they are still all tied by hand.  It's fun and a great winter hobby for those long cold nights – even if you don't fish. Class size max 12 people.  Cost $5.00.  Please call store to register 612-339-3433  Expedition Room, Midwest Mountaineering

Wednesday,November 18 - 6:30pm - Climbing 102
A Climbing 101 clinic is a prerequisite for this clinic.  Carolyn Hansen will provide this opportunity to expand your technical skills and help prepare you for more advanced climbing.  We'll review knots, commands, and belaying, along with more in-depth explanations and uses of climbing gear.  Don't worry; we will still have time to climb! Required:  All climbers must have a completed liability waiver on file at Midwest Mountaineering.  Liability waivers expire at the end of the calendar year and must be re-submitted every year. Pre-registration recommended – limited to 10 participants.  Cost $5, no refunds.  Minimum age 15.  612–339–3433  Climbing Cave, Midwest Mountaineering
