It will register you and sign you up for lunches on the 12th and 13th!

So far, it looks like we will have 40-45 people attending, which is an excellent response.  And it is a good thing, too....we have much to discuss and plan as we find ways to work hand-in-hand with our Kenyan brothers and sisters to secure the future of MMH!

As you can see, it will be a full schedule.

Some changes:  Due to a change in his schedule in Kenya, Bishop Ntombura and Pauline will not be able to be with us.

However, Mary and Stanley are still joining us!

And so are these two folks:

And, of course:

And......

That'd be Bill and Jerri Savuto, Rev. Grace, and Kathie Mann!

Remember why we care so much about Maua Methodist Hospital and Kenya?

I remember Mercy....

One day Stanley and I were out checking on homes built for AIDS Orphan families.  While out and about we heard about a young woman named Mercy. She shared this hut with her sister and brother-in-law.  Ten years earlier her mother had simply left - abandoning the family.  Her father is mentally ill, and lives secretively in the bushes around the house, coming by periodically to snatch the food left out for him.

Mercy loved school, but because of her poverty was unable to continue.  Her nutrition was poor, and when we found her she guessed that her age was somewhere around 17, although she looked more like 12.

So we found the funds for her through the programs at MMH to go back to school.  She tested out at Form 1 levels, which is the equivalent of our 9th grade.  After a few weeks in school she "changed" her age to 14, so she would fit in.  The hospital was able to provide her with medical care and the funds for her tuition.

Over the next year she went from a shy, murmuring teen unable to make eye contact to a song leader at St. Joseph's church, working especially well with the Sunday School class.

She is the future of Kenya.  Her health and education are a gift from God through the amazing melding of medical and social work that is MMH!

She inspires me still to this day!

So we will see you in Ft. Worth!  We will sort through our "laundry" list of decisions and discussions - including the need for new washing machines!

And we will be blessed by our fellowship!

ONE LAST THOUGHT!

This will be our next to last newsletter.  At Ft. Worth you will want to talk to Kathie Mann about getting on her mailing list.

Our final newsletter will be a follow-up to the Friends of Maua gathering, and a final thank you for all of your faithful support over the years that made our time in Maua possible.

We have been humbled by your grace and love.....

Blessings,
Jim and Sue
