Oktoberfest was AWESOME!
Every year our parent coordinator with help from a HUGE a number of other volunteers from the school staff host Oktoberfest! With a cake walk, moon bounce, hay play, and more, Oktoberfest is a fall fun favorite!

DINO ROCK Rocks the Miner Stage!
WATCH THE VIDEO! Thanks to our partnership with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a musical, cultural, and fun performance came to the Miner Elementary School stage to wrap up Spirit Week and our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Dino Rock's "Mi Casa Es Su Casa" introduces American children to their South American neighbors through audience participation, original bilingual songs, authentic Latin rhythms, true travel stories and bright, colorful characters created by Emmy Award-winning puppeteer Ingrid Crepeau.

Snakes and Critters Come to Fun Friday!
The last Friday of the month, Miner Bears get to spend their Miner Bucks - certificates for good behavior - to spend on exciting events or special prizes from the student store. In September, our Fun Friday included a visit from the Critter Dude and his snakes and other furry and scaly friends. Mr. Gee got into the action!

Field trips galore!
Between trips to the theater and DCPS Cornerstones neighborhood exploration experiences to a farm visit and a "Live it, Learn it" trip to the FDR Memorial, Miner students in grades PK, 3rd, 4th, and 5th went on nearly a dozen field trips in October!

Boy Scout Troop Goes Camping!
Our DCPS Boy Scout Troop took a trip camping in October - unfortunately the weather became inclement - but the boys and their leaders were able to spend the day outside doing activities and learning about wilderness practices.

Thank you October Donors!

- Star & Shamrock - $100 from Miner Night Tuesdays (10% of your bill goes to the PTO!)
- PK Parents! - $1,400 to send the PK students to Cox Farms!
- Frager’s Hardware and an anonymous donor gave $200 in supplies and funds for our green spaces

Happy National Principal Appreciation Month
October was Principal Appreciation Month! The Miner PTO sent flowers to our administrators, Dr. Evans and Ms. Torrence, and many of our classrooms made special cards and notes for our school leaders. Although the "month" is over, we will continue to show our appreciation for ALL of our hard-working Miner team!
