Cecily Road Pavements has Another Inspection
Last year we reported the pavement in Cecily Road to be in a poor condition and requested the highways inspector to visit, resulting in some remedial works being done. A resident reported to us the condition of the pavement has deteriorated. Please see reply from the Highways inspector to Hazel’s secretary after we asked for another site visit.
Hi Helen

Jo has been out today and walked the entire road raising any repairs that are at or above our intervention levels.  She has also raised a highway condition form for the footway to be considered for a more substantial treatment on our forward planning programme.

Kind regards
Rebecca Alcock, Senior Street Inspector

Tollbar Traffic Congestion.
Last week, problems with traffic lights at Tollbar Island improvement works saw large delays in the area, especially for traffic leaving Siskin Drive. Please see email Hazel received on Thursday from Alan Jones, Galliford Try’ s community Liaison officer, with an update on plans to resolve the problem.
Dear Hazel,

I fully understand the frustration business users of the Middlemarch Business Park are having during the current difficulties due to the traffic light problems which occurred last Wednesday afternoon, when some [but not all]  of the traffic lights failed.

We called out the repair crew, and although they worked through the night and restored power by 07.30 the following morning, it became apparent that difficulties remained. The traffic lights are very old in terms of Highways maintenance, and towards the end of the scheme, once the underpass is open, a completely new set will be in use. Until then, we are having to reprogram the timing sequence to increase the efficiency of the roundabout. We are optimistic this will be occurring in the next few days.

Our crew returned again today, and have successfully adjusted the traffic light sequencing. We will hopefully see an improvement in the flow of traffic leaving the park this afternoon. This has unfortunately been affecting Siskin Drive traffic to a serious extent, but we hope that with the timings having been adjusted and correctly sequence for an improved traffic flow, then congestion will be reduced for Middlemarch Business Park.

As you can imagine, I have been inundated with emails and phone calls about this very frustration situation, I will contact you if there is any further news.

Kind regards
Alan

Alleged Permit Misuse
Residents have contacted us about the misuse of parking permits. Please see the response from Jonathan Hagan, Business Analyst (Parking Services)
Dear Cllr. Bailey,

We are continuing to progress with investigating alleged permit misuse, not just within Cheylesmore and Earlsdon, but throughout all residential parking schemes in the city.

In Cheylesmore and Earlsdon, of the 23 vehicles that we have received complaints about, a number have already been identified as belonging to genuine visitors to properties within the respective areas.

We have issued warning notices to a number of cars. I have attached a copy of this warning notice for you. Dependant on whether we here from the vehicle owner, the permit owner or they stop parking in the area will depend on the step we take next.

Unfortunately, data protection precludes us from discussing specific vehicles with members of the public. However, we have already been contacted by some of the people who have been issued with warning notices stating that they believe the permits correctly.

It is worth noting that to date in Cheylesmore and Earlsdon, 2842 permits have been issued. That corresponds to a 0.8% suspected misuse rate. Whilst ideally this would be 0, this is still very good.

Whitley Traffic Issues
Has the opening of the 700 space JLR car park made any difference? Please let us know.

A resident raised as a serious problem, that a car park information sign had been positioned on a cycle track used by school children, thus causing problems for both cyclists and pedestrians. This had been put in place by Coventry City Council on behalf of JLR to direct employees to specific car parks within the site. This has now been re-sited.

Residents continue to be frustrated by JLR workers' inconsiderate parking. On Monday, a resident contacted Hazel as they couldn't get out of their drive. Within half an hour they had the satisfaction of seeing the car issued with a ticket.

Bonfire Night at Charterhouse
On Thursday, Mark attended the Firework event at the Charterhouse, London Road.

He met people from the Coventry Charterhouse Association who give of their own time to ensure that the building is kept open for visitors.

Mark had an opportunity to walk around and listen to those who shared their hopes and plans for the building’s future.

He also saw the proposals for opening up part of the Sherbourne river in the city centre together with a ‘walking route’ alongside the river.

Council’s Customer Service Centre at Broadgate House opens 18 November.
