NOVEMBER 2015

And the winners are…
Once again creativity reigned throughout Wilmot during the WCA’s sixth annual Scarecrow Contest. Winners, selected by members of the Wilmot Garden Club—co-sponsor of this fun event—received a $10 gift certificate to the Vernondale Store in Sutton or a one-year subscription to the InterTown Record, donated by the newspaper’s publisher, Annette Vogel. Mark your calendars!
The WCA will have a Thursday’s Child fund-raising dinner on Thursday, November 19 at the Coach House Restaurant at the New London Inn. We will share the evening with the Wilmot Learning Place. This is a fun and easy way to raise funds for the WCA. Call your friends and neighbors and book a table – they fill up fast – so do it today. You can make reservations at 526-2791.

Toe-tapping fun at drumming concert!

Families danced in the aisles to the drum beats of The Timbre Drums Ensemble on October 17. Emilie Meadows (right) and Lindsey (center) and Grace (left) Schust taught the audience songs and dance steps. They also talked about their instruments. The evening was fun, informative, and great for the kids.

Annual Halloween Party

The Neal Family trick or treating at the WCA Red Barn

A constant stream of costumed trick or treaters visited the WCA’s Red Barn for the annual Halloween Party. This popular, annual free event would not be possible without the efforts of several dedicated volunteers including Rachel and Keith Seamans, who decorated the building, organized games, filled goodie bags and hosted the event; and Darlene Delano and Denise Curtiss who provided cider and wonderful baked goods.

Won’t you join us?
The WCA’s Board of Directors is a dynamic group of people dedicated to fulfilling the organization’s mission of providing the facilities for educational, social, and recreational opportunities for members of the community. If you’re interested in learning more about this fun and important group, please contact Ann Davis at 927-4596 or Judy Hauck at 526-4920.

Annual Fund winding down
It takes more than your membership dollars to keep the WCA afloat. The Annual Fund is one of several ways your Association raises money. Separate from membership dues, it is an important part of the WCA’s diverse fund-raising strategies. Annual Fund donors contributed about $9,000 in 2014, a significant 15 percent of the WCA’s budget. Thank you in advance for your generous support of the WCA in 2015! [More]

How important is the raft to you?
Due to insurance restrictions, the WCA could not float the raft in Tannery Pond this past summer. The town of Wilmot could get liability coverage for the raft. However, the town can only add Timothy Patten Park to its insurance plan if it owns the park. Would you agree to the WCA giving Timothy Patten Park to the town if it meant you could use the raft on Tannery Pond next summer? Please let us know what you think by email at wca@tds.net.

Technology 101
You can get your tech questions answered from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, November 2 during the Technology Play Group at the WCA’s Red Barn. These sessions are held in cooperation with the Wilmot Public Library. Stop in and get a quick tutorial on tablets, e-books, audiobooks, and Facebook. More information is available from Rosanna Dude, library director, at 526-6804.

Senior lunch November 18
The next senior lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18 at the WCA’s Red Barn. Lunches hosted by the WCA, the Wilmot Ladies Aid Society, and the Community Action Program of Belknap and Merrimack counties, are a terrific opportunity to enjoy a hot meal and schmooze with your friends. Please contact Margaret Doody by November 11 at 768-3805 to make reservations. [More]

History, Poetry, and Jazz - November 14
Revel in history, poetry, and music with local jazz historian and ragtime/jazz pianist, Carl Hultberg. Carl will round out the WCA’s fall concert series at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 14 at the Red Barn. He will read from his biography, "Rudi and Me," play his collection of vintage jazz records, and, if you bring them, play your jazz records. You may also share your instrumental or vocal talent. The event is free and open to all. [More]
