Author Talk and Book Signing:
Rinker Buck, The Oregon Trail

"In the 15 years leading up to the Civil War, more than 400,000 settlers migrated west on the Oregon Trail. The 2,100-mile trail stretched from the frontier at the Missouri River to the Pacific coast, and the last documented trip was in 1909. In 2011, my brother Nick and I spent four months living in a covered wagon tracing the original trail..." Rinker Buck, a former Norfolk resident, will tell us more about his journey on the most important route in American history. The Oregon Trail was named to the Top 20 Best Books of the Year by Amazon.

Construction Update

Restoration of the roof has begun! The terra-cotta tiles, made by the historic Ludowici Roof Tile Company, are on pallets in the parking area awaiting installation, as the contractors remove the asphalt shingles and prepare the sheathing. Ludowici has been manufacturing tiles since 1888, the same year the Norfolk Library was founded. Organized in Alfred, New York, as Celadon Terra Cotta, the company likely supplied the tiles that covered the roof when the Library was built. In 1902 the company opened its plant in New Lexington, Ohio, where the tiles are manufactured today.
