Renowned hoop dance and movement artist to lead workshop in Steamboat
Brecken Rivera, a world-renowned hoop dance artist and instructor, will lead dancers, hoopers and anyone with a passion for movement arts through a special hoop workshop in Steamboat.
WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 14 at NOON at Sundance Studio.
COST: $50 for the four-hour workshop. SDT Members, $40 (must show your membership card)
TIME: 12:00pm - 4pm
Rivera’s style of hoop dance incorporates organic body movements and waves of exchange with the hoop. Elements of breath, weight, tipping, ramps and transitional imagery all come together through a winding of 8’s and spirals that follow the path of least resistance and can accomplish the sense of being carried by a gust of wind.
The workshop will focus on soft wave-life motion qualities, subtlety and fluidity of movement, organic momentum in barrel rolls, shifting focus through figure-8s and “catching the wind” of fluid movement. It’s open to all levels, and hoops will be available to borrow and purchase.
