Eastern Connecticut and Salem State Men
Win NERFU College Play-offs

Last weekend saw the top four NERFU clubs in two divisions do battle to see who would advance on to the National Small College Rugby Organization's (NSCRO) regional play-offs.

In the Champions Cup division NERFU North #1 seed University of Maine- Orono took on NERFU South #2 seed Tufts and won by the score of 22-15. In the other Champions Cup semi-final NERFU South #1 Eastern Connecticut State faced a tough NERFU North #2 seed, the University of Maine- Farmington. Eastern Connecticut prevailed in this match-up 28-15. In the final, Eastern Connecticut got the better of U of Maine- Orono, winning the NERFU Champions Cup by a score of 20-12.

The second divisional play-offs last weekend was the Challenger Cup and featured NERFU North #1 Salem State facing off against NERFU South #2 University of New Haven. In the other semi-final Colby-Sawyer, the NERFU North #2 seed, battled against the NERFU South #1 seed Trinity. In the first semi-final Salem State cruised past New Haven, 60-7. Trinity also had a relatively easy time in their match, winning by a score of 41-12. In the Challengers Cup final it was Salem hoisting the hardware after their 44-17 defeat of Trinity.

With their win Eastern Connecticut has advanced directly onto the NSCRO Champions Cup Region 1 Championship. They will also be acting as the hosts of this round on November 21st and 22nd. The University of Maine- Orono also has another shot at making it through to the regionals if they can beat Plattsburgh State this weekend in a NSCRO qualifier match.

Salem State will also be in action this weekend as they take on Canisius in the Challenger Cup Northeast Regional. The winner will advance onto the NSCRO East Coast Challengers Championship at Mount St. Mary's University (Emmitsburg, MD) on December 5th and 6th.

Best of luck to both Salem State and the University of Maine- Orono as they take the pitch this weekend!
