CIDSE getting ready for the COP21 Paris
Act now for climate justice
The UN climate conference  (COP21) starting on 30 November is a major opportunity to call for climate justice, keep the pressure on policy makers and meet with committed people from around the world. CIDSE will be present in Paris, both monitoring official negotiations and engaging and mobilising with civil society through various activities.

Catholic Church calls for urgent climate action
'Integral ecological approach' needed
CIDSE supports the appeal by the Presidents of all the continental groupings of national Bishops’ Conferences to the COP21 negotiating parties which calls on them to work toward the approval of a fair, legally binding and truly transformational climate agreement. The statement was released at a press conference in Rome on 26 October.

New 2030 agenda: important but contradictions remain

Public call to world leaders 
Before the UN Summit on Sustainable Development and Pope Francis’s address to the UN General Assembly, CIDSE coordinated a statement co-signed by a group of leading voices to demand greater ambition in tackling social injustices, calling for a new emphasis on notions of well-being, a culture of care and shared prosperity.

Civil society says NO to "climate smart agriculture"

No to green-washed false solutions
One year after the launch of the Global Alliance for Climate Smart Agriculture (GACSA), CIDSE restates its firm “NO” in a statement signed by over 350 organisations from all over the world. Decision makers must redirect their attention towards solutions that truly address the food and climate crisis – such as agroecology

  • As part of a European lobby tour organised by MISEREOR and CIDSE, Mgr. Fridolin Ambongo, and Fr. Clément Makiobo representing CENCO - the National Bishops Conference of CONGO (DRC) -  will meet with EU political leaders, Members of the European Parliament and representatives of EU Member States to call for a strong EU legislation on conflict minerals. (Brussels, 12-13/11/2015)
  • CIDSE will participate in the 4th UN Business and Human Rights annual Forum where it will co-sponsor two side events: one with FIDH, FoE Europe and ActionAid on trade and investment agreements (17/11) and another on human rights due diligence in law and practice (18/11). (Geneva, 16-18/11)
  • CIDSE will moderate a debate on “Laudato Si’: Climate Policy – Moral obligation and International Commitment” organised by the Jesuit European Social Centre and the Hanns Seidel Foundation. To register, click here. (Brussels, 18/11)
  • CIDSE will speak at a conference on ‘Climate change and development’ co-organised by Cordaid, CARE NL, ICCO, Kerk in Actie, Huis van Europa, and Humanity House. (The Hague, 19/11/2015)
  • Together with SECAM taking the lead, CIDSE, AEFJN and AFJN will organise a conference on “Land grab and just governance in Africa” in Nairobi that will gather about 80 participants, including representatives from communities affected by and resisting land grabbing, local, regional and international NGOs as well as Church representatives from Justice and Peace Commissions concerned with this issue.   • CIDSE will take part in the Civil Society Summit Europe 2015 “The future of development cooperation – who is really benefitting?” organised by CONCORD Aidwatch with  the support of Eurodad, CPDE, Reality of Aid and CAN Europe (Brussels, 24/11/2015)
  • During the COP21 conference, CIDSE will host an official side-event entitled “Deal with it! People, Rights, Justice”, together with Caritas Internationalis, MISEREOR and Friends of the Earth International. (Paris, 07/12/2015).
  • As part of civil society COP21 mobilisation activities, CIDSE will organise a five-day programme in collaboration with partners and allies from all over the world, including workshops, exchanges and actions with supporters and staff from its member organisations. Among activities foreseen, there will be a workshop on sustainable lifestyles and another one on rethinking development. Together with CCFD-Terre Solidaire, Caritas Internationalis and Secours Catholique, CIDSE will also co-sponsor an event on ecology and spirituality. (Paris, 9-13/12/2015)
  • Together with ECCJ and Amnesty International, CIDSE will co-organise a workshop on human rights due diligence. (Brussels, 27-28/01/2016)
