Major victory against South Texas voter fraud

NLF Client Letty Lopez Wins Court-Ordered Election in Weslaco

NLF client Letty Lopez, live after her victory:  "This is not a District 5 race. This is a city race, statewide race, nationwide race against voter fraud."

After a hard-fought four-day trial in March 2014, Najvar Law Firm principal attorney Jerad Najvar proved 30 illegal votes had been cast in the original election between NLF client Letty Lopez and Lupe Rivera for Weslaco's District 5 commission seat.  NLF successfully defended the judgment on appeal, and the court ordered a new election for November 2015.  Lopez won the race, consolidating a pathbreaking victory against voter fraud in the Rio Grande Valley.

The case has also sparked a criminal prosecution by the Texas Attorney General's office.  Sixteen misdemeanor charges have been filed against Rivera and his campaign operatives, and felony charges may still be filed.  The Texas Tribune also covered the criminal complaint.

"This was a civil rights case," said Najvar. "Lupe Rivera tried to choose his voters and steal this election, and he ultimately failed. We got a unanimous decision from the Corpus Christi court of appeals, from a bipartisan panel of three judges. My hope is that this encourages more good folks to stand up for their rights in the Valley."

Najvar Law Firm is committed to restoring integrity to elections in South Texas.

Jerad Najvar practices political and appellate law and is founder of the Najvar Law Firm in Houston.  He served as co-counsel to plaintiff Shaun McCutcheon in McCutcheon v. FEC, a successful challenge to federal aggregate contribution limits decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
