QUAC members triumph in Las Vegas Triathlon
Sage Maaranen and Jordan Callister successfully completed the rigorous Pumpkin Man triathlon course that started with a swim in Lake Mead, had the
"completely up hill bike course from hell", and finished in Boulder City. Both finished great with Jordan placing 3rd in his age group. Sage placed first in her age group and 3rd for overall women. Wow! Congratulations you two!!
Meeting of the QUAC Board
The QUAC board met last Sunday at Jeff Lewis’ home. We discussed plans for Ski-n-Swim, the budget, the coaching staff and captains, our relationship with the governing bodies for all USMS teams, QUAC awards, and our many upcoming swim meets and social events. Keep in mind that these events are in addition to the eight scheduled QUAC practices each week. These events include: The South Davis swim meet on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 (there’s still time to sign up to swim, be a volunteer, or just show up to cheer), a Holiday Brunch on December 13, 2015 at Sterling’s house, the Century Swim for charity on New Years Day, the Annual Awards Party in January, and our most popular event of the year, Ski-n-Swim, on the weekend of February 20. Our next board meetings will be on December 17, 2015. Board meetings occur about every six weeks and are open to all QUAC members.

New Board Member - Kit Kobe
We have several new board members, and this month we are featuring Kit Kobe. Kit grew up in Long Beach, California and swam on her high school team. She attended Cal State University Long Beach from 1975-1979 and earned a degree in Psychology with a minor in coaching and then worked on a Master's degree in Counseling. She rowed for four years on the CSULB varsity women's crew and qualified for the national sweep rowing camp. She coached the Los Altos YMCA youth swim team in 1980. Time flew, she moved to Idaho, worked as a lifeguard and taught swimming, skied, did triathlons, got married, moved to SLC, got a Master of Architecture degree (U of U 1992), worked as an intern architect, had two daughters, did more triathlons, got divorced, got a job coaching the Eagle Aquatic Team where both her girls were swimming, got a Spinning certification and a job teaching Spin classes, and swam with QUAC on Sundays. Her girls have now grown up and moved away for college. She still teaches ‘Spinning,’ works part-time for Patagonia, and has gladly expanded her commitment to QUAC from Sunday swims to working on the board.
Here’s Kit with her dog, Burleigh.
