Jane Needham SC was called to the Bar in 1990, after studying law part-time at UTS where she graduated with first-class honours. She was appointed senior counsel in 2004, after two years of part-time practice following the birth of her daughter. Jane had twins in 2006. Jane is currently the President of the NSW Bar Association.
She was recognised as Lawyer’s Weekly Senior Barrister of the Year in 2013, and as one of Australia’s “100 Women of Influence” in 2014, and, most recently, was the recipient of the “Woman Barrister of the Year” Award at the NSW Women Lawyers Achievement Awards 2015.
In the last ‘Inspiration over Breakfast’ speakers series this year, Jane will share with us her reflections on leadership, about:
• women in leadership roles;
• championing diversity at the NSW Bar; and
• the NSW Bar more broadly.
As President, she has been committed to goals of diversity, gender equity and recognition of flexible practice within the profession and at the Bar, and has been proud to be part of the Bar’s programs such as the guarantee of CBD childcare spaces, Best Practice Guidelines, and work on equitable briefing.
