(St. Paul) - Members of the Minnesota Nurses Association are showing their community spirit by collecting toys for needy kids through the Toys for Tots program.  Bedside nurses speak with families every day and see the effects of the cost of healthcare on families.  Often those families are forced to give up the extras in the holiday season, and the children go without a gift to brighten their season.

Nurses around the Twin Cities have set up programs at various facilities, and they'll collect toys at each hospital.  Then nurses will deliver them to the MNA offices in St. Paul.  MNA will deliver all the toys gathered to the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program on December 5, 2015.

Here's the schedule for the Toys for Tots Facility Drop Off:
  • Abbott/PEI 11/17/2015
  • Children’s MPLS 12/2/2015

Nurses in greater Minnesota are also collecting items for the needy.  Nurses at the Mayo Clinic-Mankato are holding a food drive on December 18, which will be delivered to the Echo Food Shelf.  Duluth nurses from St. Luke's Hospital and Essentia-St. Mary's will deliver warm clothing to the CHUM homeless center on December 16.  Nurses from the Cambridge Medical Center are collecting food for local food shelves in Cambridge and Isanti on December 2.
