In 1922, Xiao Youmei, a Chinese scholar and composer, created the original Chinese symphony orchestra to bring the sound of Beethoven to his people for the first time. Last month, Stanford Associate Professor of Performance Jingdong Cai recreated this historical experience with 15 musicians from the Peking University Orchestra at the Stanford Center at Peking University. “It was something like time travel,” he recalled.  Read more.

The leader of U.S. Pacific Command, Adm. Harry B. Harris, Jr., addressed U.S. nautical movements in the South China Sea while also calling for sustained military cooperation between China and the United States in a speech in SCPKU's Highly Immersive Classroom on November 3.  A group of Stanford faculty and scholars from the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center also participated from the Stanford campus via the Graduate School of Business' Highly Immersive Classroom.  Read more.

The 7^th Annual Team Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Collegiate Chapters Conference was held by the Asian Liver Center (ALC) at Stanford November 6-8.  The event was designed to bring together students from across China and the United States focused on the fight against Hepatitis B and liver cancer.  Student representatives from the ALC based at SCPKU and other sister chapters in China were invited to share their initiatives in the Hepatitis B Campaign 2015. A key effort was working with the World Health Organization and leading health organizations in China to initiate an advocacy campaign for World Hepatitis Day 2015 via social media and Beijing's subway system.
