Newsletter for October 2015
The Pit Stop is a way for our organization to reach out to our Corporate Partners, alumni, and friends. Take a look below to see what we have been up to:
2015 FSAE Car Restoration

"Enigma," as she is affectionately nicknamed, got a complete make over this month in preparation for display at Dell. She looked good after getting completely reassembled, thoroughly cleaned, and , thanks to Enigma Coatings, freshly powder-coated.
Special thanks to Dell for displaying our car during their
2015 Dell World Technology Conference!

Kayak Social
On October 18, UT SAE hosted a kayaking social. We went over to Zilker Park and rented paddle boards and kayaks, and we had a blast. Thanks to everyone who came out! We hope to see you all at our next social event!

Updates from Collegiate Design Series Teams
Longhorn Racing
With the design phase nearing its end for Longhorn Racing, the team has iterated through several designs in order to choose the best target that will help them complete a reliable car with ample time for testing in the spring. Although parts are being precisely manufactured every week, the bulk of the fabrication process can begin. While Longhorn Racing began the season with over 200 new members, they have slowly whittled themselves down to a couple dozen who are extremely dedicated and hardworking and will do doubt be quite useful in the upcoming building and assembly operations.

Other updates from the team since the last newsletter:
-Look out for the last season's car at the 2015 Dell World    Technology conference premiering the Dell IoT package.
-Big thanks to alumni David Kieke and Jeff Gensler for  meeting with the team to review designs!
-Special thanks to supporters Airtech International,  DeatschWerks, PowerFoam, Cobb Tuning, Athena  Manufacturing, and Alamo Welding Supply for partnering  with LHR this year and fueling our innovation!

EVolution Racing
Registration is competitive and initially only 20 teams were allowed to race in the 2016 event. The team  was on the wait list having registered in 34th place. We are happy to announce that SAE International just announced that 20 more teams will be allowed to race. EVo racing is now evaluating how to move forward with their season.

October General Meeting
We would like to thank Altair for speaking with us  with month. Our guest speaker, Chayan, gave us a workshop in using Inspire which helps engineers to design structurally efficient designs. Also, Chayan talked about the current move towards additive manufacturing and how Altair is integrating features that allow you to select your manufacturing style for further optimization. For more information please look at www.altair.com.

Letter from the President:
Another month has passed and along with it a changing of the guard for our newest design team, EVolution Racing. Flush with new members with new ideas, EVo is going through some structural changes that I believe will make it a better team in the end. With guidance from myself and other leaders in UT SAE, EVo will rebuild and be stronger for it!

The charge continues for UT SAE as we continue to try to bring great events and speakers to our membership. We want to thank Altair for coming to speak at our October General Meeting and we look forward National Instruments for the month of November. If you and your company are interested in becoming a guest at one of our general meetings please contact me and we will set something up.
