Dear Parents
I hope everyone enjoyed some time away from school to recharge the batteries ready for the busy half term ahead. The first week back has already included some excellent examples of our broad and exciting curriculum.
Year 6 have had a great week. On Monday they were fortunate to hear about modern day Crime and Punishment from Ms Grief, a barrister and a parent at the school, organised for them by Ms Atkins. Then they have all enjoyed a half days vital First Aid Training delivered by IMPS trainers, planned and booked by the nurses here. The pupils have all impressed our visitors with their engagement and their interest in the topics. Year 5 have enjoyed a day in Oxford at the Story and Pitt-Rivers Museums, a first for a Gateway trip, and one that we will definitely be repeating. The museums supported the work that the children have been doing in English lessons on stories from other cultures.

EYU children role play 'Bonfire Night' |
Remember, Remember, the fifth of November! This week the children put on their hats, scarves and gloves and trudged down to the school field for some 'Bonfire Night' role play. The children gathered together bundles of leaves, making a huge bonfire. Some children pretended to be mummies and daddies and gave some excellent safety advice to their 'children'. |

Reception - Enjoy 'Muddy Morning' |
Our week started off writing about our half term news and we have been thrilled to see such progress in both the children’s copy and independent writing. The children are becoming aware of finger spaces, positioning of letters on the line and putting a full stop at the end of a sentence. A lovely way to start our first week back. On Thursday, ‘Muddy morning’ certainly lived up to its name! |

Year 3 - Letter Writing and Healthy Eating |
This week we have started to look at the genre of Letter Writing. We have looked at how the style of writing differs in formal and informal letters. We have also looked at the use and purpose of paragraphs. The children should know how to start a paragraph correctly and that it contains linked sentences. |

Year 4 learn some Japanese |
Year 4 have been taking a well-earned break from learning French this term and have been reviewing and extending some of their learning from last year.
It came as quite a surprise to many of the children that they knew more about Japan and its language than they realised. |

Year 5 enjoy morning at The Story Museum |
Stories are everywhere, and are best shared. That was the message Year 5 came back with after their trip to Oxford this week.
A morning at The Story Museum began with all fifty-four children curled up on a giant bed while they helped the storyteller retell the story of Anansi and the Pot of Stories. |

House Art Competition |
It’s the ‘Big Draw’ at Gateway School this week as the children take part in the House Art Competition. During the month of October, The Big Draw took place, the world’s biggest drawing festival. Last year’s event involved twenty-six countries, with 414,000 people attending over 1800 events! No better time therefore for making drawing the focus of our competition here at school! |
