UpToDate Drug Reference Expands Heading

UpToDate increased the breadth and depth of its drug reference database by partnering with Lexicomp. This partnership provides UpToDate subscribers with access to drug information from the Lexicomp core databases, including more than 5,400 in-depth drug monographs.
  • Each monograph provides dosage information for adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients.
  • Drug interactions are analyzed between an unlimited number of drugs and herbs including over the counter medications.
  • Easy-to-understand risk ratings and patient management steps.
  • Drug administration detail including drug brands, available strength and dosage form information.
  • General and disease-specific dosing recommendations including evidence-based off-label dosing.
  • Recommendations for dose adjustment for impaired kidney or liver function, obesity, or toxicity.
  • Current FDA Special Alerts and major Health Canada safety communications.


LearnDerm By VisualDx


LearnDerm is a self-study dermatology education resource that consists of 5 interactive lessons to help build a solid foundation in essential terminology and improve your pattern recognition skills.

IOM Report Continues to Have Impact

Diagnosis Wrong Too Often, Urgent Improvement Needed - ABC News
These are just some of the sweeping headlines resulting from the Institute of Medicine report on diagnostic errors. A month after the study’s release, its impact is still far reaching. The finding that “nearly every person will experience a diagnostic error in their lifetime” resonates within and outside of the health care community. The IOM has several recommendations, including better communication within the health care system and promoting patients’ participation in the diagnostic process.

For several days before the lesions appeared, she had experienced a burning skin sensation. Other symptoms included headache, neck pain, and fatigue.

Rosenbaum, Lisa. " Transitional Chaos or Enduring Harm? The EHR and the Disruption of Medicine" NEJM 2015, 373; 17. 1585-1588.

Excerpt from the article: "A decade ago, a primary care physician I admired seemed to come undone. His efficiency had derived not from rushing between patients but from knowing them so well that his charting was effort-less and fast. But suddenly he became distracted, losing his grip on the details of his patients’ lives. He slumped around, shirt half-untucked, perpetually pulling a yellowed handkerchief from his pocket to wipe his perspiring forehead. Everyone worried he was sick. His problem, however, turned out to be the electronic health record (EHR)!"
