Milton: Canada's Best Place for Business
The Town of Milton now has the distinct title of Canada’s Best Place for Business according to ProfitGuide.com.
“There are a number of factors that make Milton such a great place to do business," said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. "From a well-educated, well-earning population to a local government that works closely with businesses to help their business thrive in Milton.”
The Economic Development team prides itself on the Town's business friendly atmosphere that has been a key factor to Milton’s success. The Town works closely with existing businesses to help them expand and creates an attractive environment for new business.
The Canadian Business “Best Places for Business” ranking relies on a mix of data from municipal governments and independent demographic and market data. Several criteria where Milton rated highly were market indicators such as population growth, median household income, percentage of residents apprenticeship or trade certificate, and percentage of residents with a university degree; governmental indicators such as building permit processing time and business property tax rate; and cost indicators such as average home price, average office lease rate and average commercial lease rate. Milton also benefits from its prime location within the Greater Toronto Area, which affords proximity to major highways, international airports and the U.S. border.

MEV Innovation Centre Adds Additional Office Space in Response to Strong Demand
Given the fact that Milton’s small business community is growing as fast as the Town itself, it’s no surprise that there is an increasing demand for office space. The MEV Innovation Centre has filled up quickly, benefiting from this trend.
“We began the year with six offices ready to go”, noted Kyle Benham, the Centre’s coordinator. “We leased those out by the end of March. Fortunately, we were able to bring another five offices on-line quickly. Those are now filled. We have a waiting list of companies, and are now looking at options for adding even more suites.”
As part of its focus on innovation, the MEV Innovation Centre offers office suites ideal for technology intensive companies in addition to its co-working program and business meeting/seminar rooms. The small suites are ideal for young companies looking for a professional environment, a dedicated space to work and access to on-site amenities. The office suites are designed to accommodate companies with 1-5 workers and, while priced at market value, are available on flexible lease terms that allow companies to scale and quickly respond to business opportunities.
The Innovation Centre is well on its way toward establishing a strong technology focus within the community. Some of the businesses working at the MEV Innovation Centre include:
